Official Oakland Athletics 2012 Season Thread (94-68) AL WEST CHAMPIONS

Yup, over the month of July we had at least 3+ hitters goin well so that drove our production. Some 3 person combo of Cespy, Reddick, Carter, Moss, Weeks, and Coco have to be hitting the ball well for us to get some runs with random timely hitting from a guy like Inge and Hicks.
We lost Coco who was hot when he got hurt. Carter and Cespy kept coming through, but Weeks can't bat leadoff (or at all apparently) and Reddick had a terrible series, and Moss hasn't played enough lately so his timing was awful.
The more I see all this the more pissed off I am that we didn't get Han Ram. I know I said I didn't want any part of him, but in hindsight I completely take it back. He was traded for pennies and at least was a viable threat to go yard. We HAVE to acquire a decent SS this offseason and Norris needs to destroy AAA, cuz right now 6-9 are basically auto-outs.

I know that feeling about Hanley. In Retrospect, I wish the trade would have went through. The left side of the infield needs to step it up. Timely hits aren't enough. Yes, they might get a hit when they need, but that doesn't make up for the fact that they'll probably go 1 for 15 (3B-SS-2B). The A's really have to rely on their pitching, but that's been the same story for what, the past decade?

^ sounds good to me

Might as well try out Rosales, give him a shot again. Can we please get somebody here who wants to hold on to the SS spot? They only have to hit over .200:lol:

Hopefully Straily goes tommorow night, fireworks game, I'm going :smokin

Blackley had his first bad outing in almost 2 months and is out of the rotation? I'm not saying Straily didn't deserve a shot but just seems a little unfair to Blackley. Whatever tho that's sports. I don't expect much from Rosales but might as well give him a shot. I have a feeling the A's front office regrets not making a deal right about now...

Sogard and Rosales in the lineup today, Coco is back, and Jemile is riding the pine. I love the proactive nature of this team, but there still needs to be a move to get a real SS.

^He's too far away to know for sure. The most optimistic scouting report I read said that he could be a starter in 3 years. Seems like he doesn't have a lot of power, gets on base a ton, and has subpar defense at this time (he just started catching a couple years ago).

Sad to see Kurt the person go, but pretty happy to see Kurt the player go. He always seemed like a cool dude.

Glad to see Mike Taylor up, he was showing good signs last time he was in the bigs.

Summing up today's moves:

-Straily up
-Smith to DL
-Taylor up
-Zook traded for 23 year old catcher
-Norris up
-Scribner, Miller sent down
-Picked up mediocre reliever for cash from Orioles

Crazy August day for a team that leads the wild card.

c'mon ryan cook!

Cook you have to be kidding me... he is just not ready >:

not having a solid veteran arm at the end might end up biting us, I guess its time to try Balfour again

We need another closer-type from somewhere. Cook has fallen off a cliff and this offense isn't going to give him enough room down the stretch to let him get away with those mistakes.

It hasn't been Cooking as of late.. at least we're still within six games of the rangers and on top of the Wild Card.

My bad folks on not updating the thread title, I've been busy the last few weeks!

they sink
not enough bats obvs
young pitchers strugglin down the stretch

cc leads mlb in walks after the asb...so its basically avoid red/ces/cc and there are easy 3-4 outs
might battle with a hoter coco, but this team overachieved this year and ive enjoyed almost all of it...ryan "only put me out if im on a days rest' cook be damned
