Official Oakland Athletics 2012 Season Thread (94-68) AL WEST CHAMPIONS

Damn, with Gutrie's stats prior to last night's game I thought we were going to have a HR derby against him.. we could never expect how we're gonna play each game.

I really hope we don't fade out of this race...

This offense is so bad tho, I just don't know how we can hang around...

We're already fading, they're not going to get worse than what they are now. Not trading for Hanley and not stacking the bullpen cost this team a playoff chance.

Glad to get a win but 11 more K's? We really need to make more contact, but I guess it is what it is at this point.

We did what we were suppose to do against the Indians. Let's keep it going against the Twins.

Damn, you can tell we are on the edge of coming back on this game. Just gotta break through vs. Dunsing.

Drew to the A's? Dude has been horrible this year, hopefully a change is all he needed. It's worth a shot.

I like the move. He's struggled this year but he's capable of being a decent SS. It's worth the risk. I don't care about the money and we didn't have to give up any prospects.

Anyways, today's game is going to hurt. We can't afford to lose to the Twins. I know baseball is a long season and you can't win every game but we just come out so flat sometimes. Let's get it together and take care of business tomorrow, please.

If Bret is healthy and ready to be great again then I love our chances going down the stretch, especially with Texas and the Angels scuffling. In fact, I'm just about ready to call the Angels out of the race. They have no heart and it shows every day on the field. They won't catch Texas for the division and they sure as hell aren't beating out the White Sox, Orioles, the Rays or us for the Wild Card. We, on the other hand, have a great shot at both the division and one of the Wild Card slots. If we're ~3 back of the Rangers at the end of the season, I think we catch them since we play them seven times in the last week and a half.

Jemile Weeks’ reaction to being optioned by the A’s

John Shea reporting from the Coliseum . . .

Jemile Weeks took the high road. No excuses. No complaints. Manager Bob Melvin told him he was being optioned to Triple-A Sacramento, and the second baseman packed his belongings with his head up and vowed to be back.

As a star.

Here’s his answer to being asked about possibly returning in September when rosters expand:

“I didn’t get any word, but I would hope. Even going down there, I would hope I’m still something the team feels they can still use and needs. But at the end of the day, I’m going to be a star in this game, man. You’ve got to have your ups and downs. It just makes the story so much sweeter when you come back. I don’t want to expound too much on it, but you’re looking at a star, period.”

Weeks was hitting .220 with two homers and 20 RBIs in 113 games. His .302 on-base percentage is second lowest in the league. It was a big comedown from his rookie season. On the other hand, he made strides defensively.

“For some reason, I feel like I was prepared for the news,” Weeks said. “It’s disappointing because I know I could have done more as a player, but I’m still happy with the way I took the decline in my average. I still feel like I did a lot of things I wanted to do, and I worked hard. The vision I had before the season, I’ve improved on what I wanted to improve from last year. I felt like I did that. The hitting part just wasn’t there, and that’s probably more of the reason why I’m going down.”

Adam Rosales is tonight’s second baseman, and Bob Melvin said Cliff Pennington will play second on Wednesday.

I just heard the news that Jemile was optioned to Sacramento. Kind of surprising, but then again not really. I want to see Jemile back with the A's in September. He's had a disappointing year, but I'm sure he's going to be a good baseball player. He was one of my favorites on the A's. Hopefully he gain some confidence at the plate while in Sac.

On another, I was able to make it out the game on Saturday and got my Hatteberg bobble head. Pretty happy with it. It was dope seeing the pre-game ceremony. Got to relive the 20th game. That night was so epic. I think there were like 55,000 fans that night (I'm not crazy right? I remember 55,000 fans). It's sad the A's don't get anywhere near that anymore, especially because of the tarps.

Lastly, the A's need to pick it up! :smh:

The coliseum with the tarps does not seat 55k. It was great to see the fans come out. Just wish they would come out when it isn't a bobble head giveaway

I think with the tarps they get, max, 35k. Without the tarps, they do get up to 55k capacity tho right?

I read that he's not going to be in the team picture but they're going to photoshop Drew in.. shady McGrady.. Brett Anderson is looking pretty good so far!

Nice triple play. :pimp: The offense needs to start delivering tho. We're playing the damn Twins. :smh:

Weeks is my dude but he needed to go down. He needs to go back to what made him successful. This is a good lesson and test for him. Hopefully he can figure it out and help us out in September.
