Agreed.
Ditto. Most likely the only people that are gonna buy these are the OG fans so why completely change the look of the ankle collar? Not having the pump system I can understand, but at the very least put the accent color plastic lace holes on there. Gentry up to his fusion business again...

Agreed.
basically. If it's true that the pump is patented by Reebok atleast give us the correct shape, if not, I will cop at outlets.

I really believe that Reebok has the patent on all Pump technology. think about it, when have you seen any other retro of a Pump inspired shoe from any other company except Reebok? I think they beat everyone to the punch by inventing it first, thus the reason why they were granted the patent. One reason why they not have made the back of the shoe the same cut is that the collar would have to have a ridiculous amount of ankle padding which would drive up production price.
With that said, Nike did a great job on this retro. They didnt even have to bring it back but they did for the people who kept asking them to bring back more high top basketball models. Besides, with jeans these will look near close to the OGs appearance wise.

True

Honestly, that pic crushes my hopes for a 180/command retro. There is no justification for them not reproducing them as close to the originals as possible, pump included or not. Id rather they just sold us a pair of midsoles and some glue to repair our originals than do this to us.

Yet another example of nike taking a classic and butchering it and thinking its ok.

Such a shame. *flips table*

Supposable Reebok's patent was going to expire this year and Nike was already jumping on the patent for a pump...maybe on the commanders...

think of it like this, at least you guys have donors for the original 180 Pump Force Highs now. between those who want to rock them as is and those who will sole swap, these will move..especially since dudes are in a retro phase of fashion with acid wash jean jackets, fitted jeans, and snapback hats.
and Reebok probably wouldnt have filed that patent if Nike didnt kill them in the sales market. think about it..Nike products probably outsell Reebok's 10 to 1 (and that may still be too measly) and Nike has signed most major athletes of the past 27 years. The Reebok Pump technology is one of the few shining jewels that they have and can move units.

what I wonder is if there will be a QS release of the Hot Lime colorway with a proper heel cut and faux pump technology if these do well, similar to how the SC trainer IIs got retroed before there was the 2 QS releases. if this happens, I can see the pump Hot Lime version being like $200 or $225 like Foamposites, basically because the Hot Limes were the most iconic colorway.

watching a pair of the OG pumps in great condition on ebay but it is up to 589 bucks right now

sthebest, Ive already considered sole swaps and it wouldnt work well enough to be worth it cause of how they are put together. Mabye someone on here can make it work, but I dont think the end product would be very convincing.

I disagree, regardless of what patent issues nike and reebok have over pumps, that in no way and under no circumstances allows it to be ok that they dont look visually how they should, whether or not they have pumps in them is beside the point. We all know from nikes past retros that they cant even make the air bubbles the right size anymore, so I never expected them to be able to reproduce something as complicated as internal pumps. That being said, it is still zero justification for them to cut down the whole upper of a classic super high top into a mid.

Also, I think your confusing the lime colorway with the command forces, which are not the force 180's. Alot of people seem to have trouble telling the two apart tho.

good thing i collect vintage Nike clothing, or else I wouldn't have this to wear with these!!

a little photoshop adjutment i made. i really dont think the final product's ankle will come to that much of an arc as in the catalogue pic

Alright, actually got to see 2 of these in person. Looks like as of now, there will be 4 colorways and they're being officially billed as "Air Force 180 Mid," though they are VERY MUCH a high top. Saw the black which is officially black/court purple/rave pink - though the "pink" is more of an infrared-y/orange-y shade. The upper of these is pretty nice, and is a split brushed nubuck/durabuck. The other colorway was a wolf grey suede with white and black hits. First thing I noticed was how light they were for what they are. As someone guessed on the last page, the ankle collar is cut almost like the Flight Light hi's from a few years ago. Still a high cut by today's standards, and will look very nice with jeans.

The final colorway is an all Photo Blue upper with a white swoosh, but I only saw pics of it and wasn't impressed. Overall, my first impression is that I absolutely love the black ones, but the other two are hit or miss. Just wish I had gotten to see the OG colorway.

Peace,
J

its wierd that these are being called mids, seeing as how the previous 180s are really a mid cut. they should at least label them 3/4s, at least they can use the excuse that they arent true highs (hence the reason for the different ankle cut).
based on your info, i'm probably just going to get the OG colorway and the black joints.
