(Spoilers) ASOIAF Books Discussion (All Books Read Edition) (Spoilers)

I think it was really from Ramsay. He did say I want my Reek back.

"Your false king is dead bastard. He and all his host were smashed in seven days of battle. I have his magic sword. Tell his red *****.
Your false king's friends are dead. Their heads upon the walls of Winterfell. Come see them, bastard. Your false king lied, and so did you. You told the world you burned the King-Beyond-the-Wall. Instead you sent him to Winterfell to steal my bride from me.
I will have my bride back. If you want Mance Rayder back, come and get him. I have him in a cage for all the north to see, proof of your lies. The cage is cold, but I have made him a warm cloak from the skins of the six ****** who came with him to Winterfell.
I want my bride back. I want the false king's queen. I want his daughter and his red witch. I want this wildling princess. I want his little prince, the wildling babe. And I want my Reek. Send them to me, bastard, and I will not trouble you or your black crows. Keep them from me, and I will cut out your bastard's heart and eat it.
Ramsay Bolton, Trueborn Lord of Winterfell."

But that doesn't mean the contents of the letter are true.

I stand corrected, it was from Ramsay but I think the contents are fake. Talking about Winterfell, I just remembered Rickon. I'm curious as to what type of person he'd turned into based from what's happening around him. I hope he doesn't turn Ramsay crazy when comes back.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

So, whoever wrote this letter had to know (or at least hear about) these specific things

  • Stannis and his army
  • Stannis's "Lightbringer" sword
  • Melisandre
  • The burning of false-Mance
  • Mance and the six spearwives going to Winterfell
  • That Ramsey's bride had left him
  • That Selyse and Shireen are at the Wall
  • Val
  • The wildling prince (but NOT know that he has been swapped with Gilly's babe)
  • Reek.

My feeling is that Melisandre wrote the letter knowing that it would cause chaos among the Watch and allow to gain influence / take control over Jon

wat about alister thorne (name?), the guy who was training jon & co in the beginning and didnt like him

He was out ranging when a lot of the events unfolded, and I doubt he was privy to most of that information.

The only other possibilities are that Mance wrote it or it actually is from Ramsay

Damn I really need to reread the books. I finished the series last year, but I have no clue what half of you are talking about.

I finished the books over a year ago and forgot a lot of stuff too. I just look up the parts I forgot to refresh my memory.

Sigh...

Game of Thrones UK Publisher: “The Winds of Winter release is almost certainly years away”

The UK Publisher of A Song of Ice and Fire tweeted this today quelling some rumours about the release of The Winds of Winter:

I mean, who would even believe it's coming out in July? The internet would've exploded like Jon Snow inside Ygritte if there was an official statement that the release was this summer.

I certainly didn't think July but I also didn't think years away.

So I'm guessing they'd cancel the show before they'd let it catch up to where the books are?

Maybe they can do a Targaryen or Robert's Rebellion prequel min-series if the show catches up with the book. Would be super expensive though. Even an animated version would be good.

The publisher really doesn't know (no one knows) until they get something from Martin. Whenever GRRM finishes it I guess it'll get ran through the proper channels fairly quickly.

Nah, there's no way that they would stop the show. The writers of the show would just continue the story in their own way to meet the ending that Martin has already told them. Would be cool IMO. It would help to separate the book and show more and give people more of a reason to delve into the books

I think I might stop watching the show then if it gets past the books. I'd rather read about what's going to happen then see it happen a little differently in the show.
