PLEASE STOP WITH THE BUY/SELL/TRADE.

Just got my MC Trainers in from Run.com.  I finally understand what everyone is talking about with padded vs unpadded.  I prefer my unpadded Volts much more.

Unpadded > Padded

But to each their own

Last call on anybody who needs help on Racer MC for $5 under retail. Have 6 NT'ers I'm helping so far so make it quick & lemme know the needed size(s). Thanks

I hate to continue the discussion of padded vs. unpadded, but was it ever determined why Nike made the change to go with padded on the Trainers? Was it a performance issue? I recall reading somewhere (I think it was on NT) that the reason they changed the laces is because the round laces kept getting undone while people were actually running in them. Not sure why they decided to add the padding, though.

There were complaints that the heel was cutting into the ankle.

People were getting blisters on their heel, foot would slip, other ankle issues.

^It's not just the laces. I think some runners were experiencing chafing/rawness on their heels from the unpadded trainers rubbing against their skin, so Nike added the padding to try and solve that issue. I've read a couple of times in this thread that people have had some bloody/raw heels after their runs. Obviously, if you're just wearing them casually, the chafing isn't a real concern.

Thanks for clearing that up, guys! Makes sense now.

I really don't have a preference when it comes to padded vs. unpadded, but if runners were experiencing issues as a direct result of the lack of padding, I imagine they weren't wearing socks, hence blisters, heel slippage, etc. I wonder if simply wearing socks could have solved the issue.

I honestly think nike just started making trainers padded cause the mass produced lunars are padded. Probably saves money by keeping the uppers all uniform.

I would agree BUT all the protoypes of the FK Lunars (which are seen on the first page of the lunar thread) were non-padded (and they're gorgeous).  I think they just saw the issues people had and made a fix for past and future.

Wrong. Racers are unpadded. And Nike is still using their resources to keep them that way. They could have easily kept the Trainers unpadded to make them "uniform" with the Racers and "save money."

They didn't.

I think the padding was added more because of a performance issue. For example "Racers" are meant for long distance running and should be produced the most lightest way possible and use the least amount of material. "Trainer" on the other hand are meant for training. In training there is more movements being made so I think the padding gives it more of a support around the foot.

Honestly, Nike should make two seperate versions of the shoe (trainer) one being padded and one unpadded.

The padding issue honestly isn't a huge deal, but I am a much larger fan of the unpadded.

Got shipping confirmation on my size 10 white trainers from the NDC sneak-restock this past Sat, should be here Wednesday :nthat:

I'm still patiently waiting on more info on those gamma blues though :nerd:

Chill, racers and trainers aren't the same shoe. But trainers and lunars are, beside the soles being different. Which is why I said keeping "those 2" models uniform.

Even aside from the sole, the Trainers and Lunars have different upper designs.

Not including HTMs:

- I am 99% sure there is not one Lunar design/CW that is the exact same (uniform) on a Trainer.
- Is there a Lunar model that implements the color blocking of the Black/White, White/Black, Volt/Black, Royal/Volt, etc?
- Swoosh sizes and placements are different.

If Nike is not making the uppers for each Flyknit uniform to save money, they aren't making both Trainers and Lunars padded to save money. It might even be cheaper to leave out the extra padding.
