2012 NBA MVP Thread

Kevin Love speaks
“I think if we make the playoffs then it’s a legitimate conversation to have but as far as right now it’s really tough to say. I look at guys like Kobe Bryant, I look at guys like LeBron James and especially with what Kevin Durant is doing I think he is just taking his team above and beyond. Obviously Russell Westbrook is playing great, James Harden, Serge Ibaka, Kendrick Perkins, and guys off the bench that are playing great basketball so I think you really have to start off that conversation with Kevin [Durant].

Wait Westbrook is an asset now? Any other conversation people act like Russ is holding KD and the Thunder back.

And probably not since Russ's backup is either Reggie Jackson or Derek Fisher or Royal Ivey post Manor's acl but it would defend on the competition.

This is a backhanded compliment.

it's not like he got ousted in the 1st rd or held to 6% shooting in a playoff series by one of the people who he beat out for the award though.

Which MVP in the past 10 years has actually won a title during the same season?

2003.

Exactly,1 in 10 so I don't get the "failing in the playoffs" argument when every winner hasn't necessarily had success in the playoffs. It's the Regular season MVP,playoffs should have nothing to do with it.

Wade isn't more athletic, gets to the rim better, finishes at the rim better, better on ball defender, help defender, shot blocker, passer...?
wade is the best shot blocking guard EVER... wade has always been a better passer then kobe even playing without a legit big man for the last couple years.. wades black out season a couple years ago when lebron won his first MVP could be compared to kobe black out season.. not points exactly but in a all around game..
kobe is always gonna be one of the greatest pure scorers, but dont act like wade is not better at anything compared to kobe.. have you seen some of the players wade has played with?..

Best shot blocking guard, great at getting to the rim, finishing at the rim, dribbling with his left hand, dribbling with his right hand, jumping off his right foot, jumping with his left foot........

You types been workin for 10 years to come up with every player, every moment you could to put somebody above Kobe and his career.  Listenin to you guys, he wouldn't even be considered a top 150 player, oh but Wade, now that's greatness.  And TMac, and Vince, Pierce, Monta Ellis, hell even Pau, whoever else you guys have surely spoken out for above Kobe.  I get it.

But that ain't the topic for in here

Bron and Durant for the MVP this year, pretty clear they are the 2 in the battle these last 15 games or so.  Big one tonight, I am sure there will be a bunch of bickering tonight about it.

Unless he totally folds these last few games I'm still going with the BASED One as I have since about 2 weeks into the season.

Should I put some sort of informal poll in the OP?  People pull thru, give their vote Bron or Durant, and we list them all and see who says what til the award is announced?

If people are cool with that, throw your vote out and I'll compile all of it and post it later.

In the interest of ease, no votes for Love or Dwight or whoever else, pretty clear it's the 2 SF's this year.

CP like i said before kobe is one of greatest scores there is no doubt about it... i never denied that... but you cant deny that wade doesnt do some things better then kobe..

Before I could even attempt to formulate a counter argument I would need to know what the qualifications are.

What are we basing this claim on... Is it purely stats or is there something else being considered as well?

CP I'm with that... You can go ahead and cast my vote for BASEDBron

just straight up block stats... is there any other way to look at it?.. for the last couple years he has always been the 1st guard on the shot blocking list with all the centers and PF and he is a undersized guard at that...

Saying Wade is a better passer than Bean is like saying Nash is a better passer than Kidd. The difference (if any) is negligible.

I dunno until LeBron got there Wade was basically the point guard, Kobe is a good passer for a 2 gaurd but Wade can play point gaurd full time and run an offense.

From an offensive standpoint, Kobe could if he wanted to as well, IMO. Running an offense doesn't necessarily make you a better passer than other people. I'm simply speaking on the ability to get the ball to an open man. I haven't ever seen D-Wade make a pass that Bean couldn't have made, and vice versa. There are plenty of teams who have PG's that aren't the best "passer" on their teams.

I just looked at who I consider to be the top 5 at that position and yea... based on stats he has all of them beat.

For the 'Skip Bayless LeBron is disqualified after he joined Wade' crowd

31, 7.5 & 7.3 on 53% shooting and an 8-1 record without Batman in 9 games.

I'd love to see the firestorm that would kick up if roles were reversed.
