Official Guitar Players Thread vol. Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

what string brands do you guys like? i've been playing with daddarios for a while kinda want to experiment with other brands

I really like Ernie Ball. They make this pack where the string thickness is reversed. They are really fun to use if you tune down a lot. It makes the low strings super pliable and flexible. I've been mostly playing in standard though so I've been mostly sticking with D'Addario. I find the D'Addario's last a bit longer than Ernie Ball

If you're playing acoustic, you absolutely CAN NOT beat Elixirs. Whether it's the Light gauge, Medium, new HD lights, they are amazing.

+1. I used to roll with d'addario but they always had a tinny sound to me. Elixirs are a few bucks more but totally worth it to me

My issue is that D'addario strings brand new already feel like old elixirs.. New elixirs are so smooth and fluent, sound amazing and last forever. What more could you ask for?

D'addario to me sound dull and worn out. :/

THE ONLY BRAND I USE FOR ACOUSTIC GUITAR

My electric guitar I just stick with ernie ball Slinkys either the .1 or .09 gauges depending on my mood, .1 give a fuller tone while .09 can allow extra vibrato on chord soloing if you dont use the whammy bar often

Just a random pic of my Short Scale

Yea I'm barely starting out. I don't really have an artist in particular but see my self playing the blues, jazz, and a little rock as well.

You gotta factor in the New vs Used, Solid state vs Tube amps, wattage or how loud you need it to go etc.

Solid state amps give you the same sound from low to high, tube amps which most pros prefer will start cracking at a certain volume to give your amp a nice warm/rich sound. Tube amps are more expensive and delicate, don't know if you will move around with it a lot but those are what people want. I just bought a solid state amp for my church playing, from the ORANGE brand and i love it. But you have to try out the amp before you buy it because there isn't any advice in the world that would compensate for personal preferences.

That said, Peavey classic 30 or any peavey is what id recommend you to try out. It may be about 650 new but you can get real good ones used for 400 dollars. Its a tube amp btw.

Ended up getting the peavey classic 30 for 400 used with a Ibanez GSR200 4-String Bass

loop pedals anybody? i'm interested in getting one

anything good for around $100 ish or am i being cheap
That red pedal ontop of the green one is my loop pedal.

Boss RC20xl

I am very happy with it and you can really improve your playing by listening to yourself over certain chords and creating your own tracks. I forgot how much i got it for but it was slightly used.

heard Digitech jam mans are good as well

as for your price range you can get used ones for a little over 100. I know you can get some for under but i prefer double pedals, one to stop and one to record/overdub. makes life easier

check this one out.

are loop pedals easy to break?? are they durable? i wonder if i should just save up for a new one with a warranty rather than get a used one

But yeah man, if you want piece of mind get a warranty but its not that big of a deal, maybe use squaretrade warranties and see if they would cover something like that.

haven't had a problem with mine. Let me know what you get! Maybe post some videos here!

Resurrecting this to post about this guy.

Sturgill Simpson. I have been listening to his latest album, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music for the last 4 weeks straight now.. just saw him the other night here in Sacramento.
After seeing many great bands, including Garth Brooks recently, Sturgill was HANDS DOWN, NO QUESTIONS ASKED, the BEST musician I have ever seen perform. His band is absolutely electric, and his guitarist reigns from Astonia but plays the Telecaster like an absolute monster. Slides, licks, solos, you name it- this guy kills it.

I honestly have no shame admitting that I'm a bit obsessed with Sturgill because he's the real deal. This man is a country music legend in the making.

The best part? He's flipping the middle finger to Nashville.. refuses to take part in the big debate on pop-country and the current status that Country Music is in. He just wants to play his music and make something he can be proud of..

So here is, the guy that Shooter Jennings says is "the best singer in Nashville".

@Adrian1221 I know you were asking me about country on the last page.. check this dude out. You won't regret it.

@spizike231  thanks! I kinda was looking for stagecoach artist the other day to put me onto the scene

I now how to use a pick and play a couple notes, thanks to rocksmith.

What can't rocksmith teach you after a certain point?

Rocksmith sucks at teaching you scales IMO. However, there are some great customs that help. You know about Customsforge right?

I think one of the main drawbacks with Rocksmith is the reliance on sight reading. For me it's a bad thing, just because I can 100% a song doesn't mean I've actually learned it. When I'm committing songs to memory I never use Rocksmith.

What style of music do you guys play? I mostly play thrash and death metal. I don't mind any acoustic like this amazing intro
