These Lava Dunks I have from 2011 have really good suede...like Wally mentioned. If you run your fingers over it the shading changes and they're super soft.
Nike can get the materials, they just don't want to most of the time for cost reasons.

Word. Made me go look and my Lava Dome 2.4s have a similar grade of suede. Not old school level but good compared to what we typically get now.
But, that's part of what I'm getting at - we won't get material from the '80s and '90s because the manufacturing process is completely different as well as environmental concerns. The way a designer explained it to me is that even the stuff they're we're calling "good leather" is actually just really good synthetic material.

Similar material, but the weave-pattern was different. The grey ones had more of a carbon-fibre weave to it, while these PR ones had more of a "normal" pattern...

Second pair is better imo. Hopefully that's the one people sleep on.
