Yea, that got real dark.

As an adult, I don't mind the tone, but it was definitely a surprise. That's the only time I can remember where someone has been literally killed by another person in the Avatar universe. Mostly it's just people falling off of cliffs or stuff like Sozin leaving Roku to perish but not actively being the catalyst.

In fact, I actually was waiting for them to come out and say that she was just momentarily knocked out and was imprisoned in the next scene.

This season is definitely getting good. And Zaheer is a much more compelling antagonist than in past seasons of Korra.

As of right now I think Zaheer and his group are the best villains in both series so far. They even have personalities (Bolin guessing 2 out of 3 right when it came to the lava-bender )

Next week is the last two episodes of book three...I wanna take a guess that the red lotus will continue to be the center of conflict into book 4. I swear if they resolve all this in two episodes ima go berserk
