Anyways... carry on 'gentlemen'

That's such a Miranda thing to say.

I don't know...I think that's such a Samantha thing to say.

I had her first.
Changed it to Miranda because she's more negative.....I'm actually kinda sad that I know that much about the characters

still loved that show

Your condescension, especially in quoting "gentlemen", didn't go unnoticed.

To add, its pretty narrow minded to assume a show about women is automatically inaccessible to men. Stories or issues plaguing twentysomething women aren't restricted to discussing solely "womens" issues. But judging from your reply I think its safe to say you don't really care.. You just want to say "something" but won't come out with it.. You'll just make patronizing remarks instead.

anyone watch tonight's episode?

pretty good

this show certainly won't be for everyone, the material is a bit graphic and although driven towards females, I think all can find it funny.

I finally gave up and watched the first episode, and it was as horrible as I expected. I tried to watch it as if it was in a vacuum and ignoring all the outside aspects that made me dislike the show before even seeing it (the billing as a realistic show, despite having no people of color while living in Brooklyn, recycled subject matter, the fact the show is called "Girls" and these are grown women, etc. I could go on), and I think that I did succeed in putting aside my biases, and watching it with a clean slate, but it was incredibly grating, and really difficult to even get through the first episode. I understand the intent of the a lot of what we see on the show, and it is trying to open a dialogue about difficult issues that are often taboo and ignored (especially those sexual in nature), and often times when this happens it's very hit or miss. A movie such as À ma sœur can execute this and though you are uncomfortable as a viewer, it's well acted, and doesn't seem overdone for no reason. I definitely felt the opposite watching this show. I hated the dialogue and was for the most part being annoyed through the entirety of the show. Though I put aside my preconceived notions about the show, one point did arise when it dawned on me that the only black face that I really saw the entire episode was that of the homeless fellow she encounters. I must say it did make me shudder a bit, but not anymore than the slightly above average acting and largely annoying dialogue.

I would also like to add one other tidbit about the show that was cause for pause for me as a viewer which may change in the coming episodes, but I won't see because I will never see this show again. I understand that Dunham may be drawing from her own experiences in this show, and I understand that she doesn't owe it to anyone to convey anything except for her own ideas, but it is mystifying to me, why she would make the characters have such a bad relationship with themselves in relation to their sex lives. Why is it that all of these female characters have such a self-loathing and confusion about their lives which are seemingly pretty good. It is understandable that everyone has problems, but what I got out of it, was that these women, no matter what, are unable to be put together no matter how confident they are in many facets of their own lives. To me, it really just reeks of the "fatal flaw" that male writers have heaped on strong female characters throughout time on television and in movies. And again, I understand that it's not Dunham's responsibility to rectify this, and maybe she will later, but it was just disappointing to me, that she has this platform and chose to go in a certain direction (ie. Jessa, the character who was the most liberated sexually reveals that she is pregnant. I imagine that this will eventually turn into a pro-choice storyline, but either way, it was disappointing that they chose to throw a hiccup like that at her character, especially in the pilot).

In the end though, it really comes down to the fact that I'm really not interested in this story. It's not the fault of Lena or HBO, really, it's mostly the fault of the television viewer, because they really only want to see one POV, so I can't blame her for writing about what she knows or HBO for picking up a show that can be successful. I just know it isn't for me.

While she is not good looking at all, I actually like that the lead character isn't super model status, helps the show feel more "normal"

she makes Peggy from Mad Men look handsome.

Peggy has been lookin' so much better in the later seasons.  Nothing I would fap to, but I don't hate myself after watching one of her scenes anymore.  Plus, she plays the role so well.

So what if guys did? Are men prohibited from watching a show about women? Are women not allowed to watch a show about men?

I'm definitely a fan of this show, I enjoyed the second episode more than the first.

Marnie's reaction to the other girl saying she's a virgin "I hit a puppy with my car once"

man, I hated her so much on West Wing, I was mad when I saw her on Mad Men.
Then Connor from Angel was Peter...January Jones turned out to be January Jones.

I should try to catch up...

The Sex scene was funny. The mom is cold blooded. I think this show might actually take on a cult like following.

so so episode today, best part was the line from the artist guy "the first time I @%@* you, I may scare you, I'm a man and I know things" pretty awesome
