Pat Summitt is forced to retire due to early onset dementia

Yeah easily top 5. Kind of reminds me when Jim "Catfish" Hunter passed away. A man who made his entire living on pitching and using his arms and at the time o his passing he had lost all use of both arms. The thought of coach pat not being able to remember all she did for women's basketball in the NCAA and the wnba is just a horrible thought. Best of luck to her. A true pioneer in her field.

Doc Rivers got pretty emotional after last night's game when he was talking about Summitt. caught me off guard.

Real respect right there.

Pat's work and accomplishments cross gender barriers. her run is/was incredible.

RIP to the legendary Pat Summit. She had an incredible run, and people respected her.

Truth be told she was one of a very select few women that could coach men and command respect right from the get go.

RIP Pat Summit

Smh at me starting this thread and being unable to update it. But anyway yeah. She would have 100% been able to coach men no doubt in my mind. This story proves it.

RIP to a legend of a coach & human being.

Glad she isn't suffering anymore.

Absolute legend of a coach, her only peer is Wooden & that's it.

- 161: Players coached by Summitt
- 90: Branches on Summitt's coaching tree
- 2: Courts named in her honor
- .913: Winning percentage in home games

Love the story how she was on a recruiting trip while she was pregnant & her water broke. She had a private jet take her back & but refused to land in Virginia to give birth because Tennessee lost to Virginia in the finals that year. She wanted her son born in Tennessee...

God bless her & her family...

I was shocked and saddened to hear that this morning.  I didn't know that her status had deteriorated this quickly.  I had just read an interview with Chamique Holdsclaw where she said she had just spent time with Pat recently.   Truly legendary.  RIP

RIP to the legend. Was fun following her career growing up.

Devil's advocate here but when Geno is in her sport we have to realize he's right there with her and almost all accounts.

But the Summitt resume is, especially literally starting from scratch, is absolutely incredible. The graduation rate I mean come on my god

I read yesterday that When summit started coaching most girls high school games were 3 on 3 and had one player who didn't cross half court. pat Summit is Woman's basketball.
Incredible.
She washed team unis and drove the team van as head coach at a SEC school at the beginning. To start from there and take that program to the point where your selling out your 20,000 seat arena every home game year in and year out is Unimaginable.
If you have daughters, thank Pat Summit she don't have to settle for cheerleader, she can be the star in a team
Salute

Been reading really good Pat stories over the last few days, and she was definitely responsible for me having any interest in WCBB. I definitely fashioned myself as a Tennessee WCBB fan growing up because of here. This story was great, though.

Of all the impressive stats, and they're the definition of impressive.. The 100% graduation rate really stands out to me..

Coach summit really embodied the "student athlete" label, an idea that has been otherwise exploited imo..

Great coach.. Better woman..
