Black guy hair cuts

Was in KC over the weekend and got a cut by my old barber, so happy I'm moving back to KC in 2 weeks

Finna cut my hair today after work. Just need to cop a hand mirror at CVS since I dropped my last one.

Aiming for this

400

But keeping the top high like this

400

Having a barber that can perfectly blend in your fade is the hardest part , I gotta get a cut tomorrow I'll see if he can follow directions . Btw to all you guys that get a shape up every week yall don't feel that your hairline is slightly push back ?

You'll be surprise I know dudes that get a shape up every Friday and a cut the week after that , started doing that since my hair grow back so fast but I chill since I notice my barber would slightly try to push my hairline back just to make me look sharp with the razor .

I don't blame you , I don't feel right at all once my hairline start creeping up plus I have a widows peak so i can't hide it .

I thought son was a barber
Come on fam its 2015, with all them weekly quick shape ups yall buying you could save up and buy a damn Andis, Oster or Wahl Liner and do it yourself with two mirrors. Unless you like rocking neck/temple fades and always want them fresh and crisp I understand.

Then again I think like a barber who cuts his own hair.

My bad.

So If i cop 2 mirrors and an Andis, my shape up finna be just as crisp as my barber who's been doin this since he got out the pen in '94?

no but with time youll be good money... my girl thought i went to the barber this weekend for a shape up... nope, got a cut last week and just went over what he did... it saves me money in btwn haircuts... so instead of seeing him 4x a month, i could see him once or twice. I dont have my beard going for me right now (goatee) so its that much easier.. i learned in the military.. messed my fade up for 2 months b4 i got it right.. lol

I give myself weekly line ups and go get my haircut every 3-4 weeks. My job doesn't pay enough for me to go more frequently

Leave that cut in 2013
Saw that **** in the previews and came in to say the EXACT same thing.

My Andis T Outliner GTX, the black ones, don't even touch when I try to shave with them. I just put them back in the box

horrible analogy. tattoos and haircuts aren't even the same.

Analogies by definition are not the same.

The analogy is spot on. No ones saying you can't ever find a good cut for cheap.  When I lived in West Covina, CA one of the most talented and consistent barbers I've ever had was a Mexican dude named "Josh" who charged $12 and didn't even expect a tip. Razorblade live and everything. Been looking for 10 years and I've never found another Josh.

If you have a Josh that's great the but the old adage "you get what you pay for" suits few professions more than it does barbers and tattooist.

Yea because that's exactly what I said....
Real talk how long would it take me to learn to do that weekly in between taper at the temple adequately by myself at home?
I dont have the patient for that, I will just go to the barber or woof it out.

About 2 or 3 months I would say.

Its all about learning the cutting angles of your trimmer and with trying to refresh your taper a little its all about learning your blade sizes.

For edging you pretty much need to visually create the lines before you cut them from where the hair is growing back from your barber's original line.

I can pretty much look at someone's dull taper growing back and know what sizes to hit it with again to freshen the fade up and blend.

Yea anything with fading/taper or just someone with  a weird hairline I can understand not wanting to cut themselves,

but a regular even cut what I call an "Even Steven" with a shape up and blocked shaped neck is quiet simple for anyone to do themselves.

Idk man you're right on the "Even Steven" been doing that since 9th grade but it takes a certain level of dexterity to even come close to matching a high level barber's lineup. I mean I can buy myself and my line a handful of days or so but it's not the same. I'm also convinced his Andis are better than mine. Probably need to zero gap.

Yea this is true, trust me cutting your hair with two mirrors does start to wear you out dexterity wise especially the older you get.

Yes using a clipper out of the box feels as dull as a butter knife for most barbers.

Either gap or have your T or Square blade professionally honed.

This also comes with skill to cut sharp lines with one downward press and not need to retouch it or damn near touch the skin.

A shape up should always be painless these days, nor should the client ever feel scratching or blade heat on thier skin.
