So, ive been listening to more Sublime lately, (yes I know Im late to the party), but I was wondering if there were any other bands or musicians out there with a similar style/sound? I really like the reggae/ska type sound so I have been wanting to look for more stuff.

Anyone with any suggestions besides 311? Thanks.

Neither of those groups are ska or reggae. They may have been influenced by both but far from it. Please look through the reggae thread here for some real reggae...

Sublime is ska punk.
if you are looking for similar music try The Mighty, Mighty Bosstones or Operation Ivy.
Even No Doubt has that ska punk vibe (more so their earlier stuff)
Rancid has some ska roots also.
You also got 2 Tone ska with The Specials, Madness, English Beat..

I actually just had 40oz. to Freedom on the other night after not listening to it for a quite a while.  such a great album...

I'd add some Save Ferris there as well, falls more into ska-pop though.

the ska label is faily broad. It seems like youre looking for ska influenced music though, which isnt a bad thing. here's a mix of both, old and new

Pepper
Slightly Stoopid
Toots and the Maytals
Bad Brains
Fishbone
Sugar Ray (more on the poppy side of things)
Pre-2002 No Doubt
Pennywise
G Love and Special Sauce (a bit more folky)

You just listed some of my favorite bands

of those, I highly recommend Slightly Stoopid and G. Love

if you listen to a couple G. Love songs and aren't feeling them, don't give up too quickly.  Dude's musical range is CRAZY and he is mad talented.  Lemonade is one of the greatest summertime albums I've ever heard.

Pennywise is nowhere near ska
Pennywise is straight up punk and Fletcher would punch you in the face if you disagree

Thanks for all the suggestion guys. Going to look into some of them. Need some music to listen to.

Do any of these bands still put out new music? I saw that Slightly Stoopid hasnt had an album since 08.

G Love & Special Sauce do. sublime teamed up with Rome and has started touring/performing as "Sublime w/ Rome." they had a decent album drop just last year. All the other ones I haven't heard any new material from in a while

Please. None of this stuff is reggae or ska. It's all alternative or post punk music. It's like people saying the Grateful Dead are a blues or blue grass band. They are not. The groups you guys are mentioning are heavily influenced by reggae/ska but they are not, I repeat not reggae/ska bands.

If you want to listen to reggae, at least listen to Jimmy Cliff cover Rancid's Ruby Soho. His recent EP was produced by none other than Tim Armstrong. Cliff's full album fully producted by Armstrong is expected later this year.

calm down.
OPsaid he's been listening to Sublime and wantedbands with a "similar style/sound"
he never asked foractual ska/reggae bands...
and I will respectfully disagree that bands like The Specials, The Beat or Madness are not ska.

That is why I asked for bands with similar styles. Im not looking for TRUE Reggae. You can obviously hear the reggae influences in their music. Thats why I put reggae/ska TYPE sound.

Reggae dudes taking stuff personally in here.
