Nike is kicking off their celebration of the Nike Air Safari with the "Safari" Nike Air Trainer 1. The Nike Air Trainer 1 originally debuted alongside the Nike Air Safari as part of the "Air Pack" that debuted in 1987 and this time around it is taking on the full OG Air Safari colorway. The "Safari" Nike Air Trainer 1 features an Orange and Black upper with the OG Grey/Black Safari print on the trim.

As of now there is no word on an exact release date for the US but the "Safari" Nike Air Trainer 1 is available now at select spots in Asia. Stay tuned for the US info. For now, check out more pics after the jump.

Is a true Air Safari 87 retro releasing this year too?

lol, I was just coming in here to post this.  Can't front these are pretty sick.  Don't know how the leather is gonna be but it's a dope concept.
Here's some more pics from sneakernews:

I like 'em and love that they kept 'em to the og shoe....but that leather lining is going to annoy me so i won't cop....#****isaytoavoidbuyingsneakers

I always feel inclined to feel that if this concept was actually a good idea, it would've been done from the very beginning. I love the safaris as their own entity, just as the at1 high model. Combining them, not so much.

The OG models back around 87-89 took the safari print and did their own thing:

Or the retros from 2004

Or the conceptual idea that COLORS and pristine materials was enough to get that safari concept out there:

This feels like a half baked idea. And with kids already running around with these, as noted by another NTer in NYC, this has hypebeast "look at me" all over it... The AT1 has NEVER been about that... But I should know better. They've done some crazy things with this model

ps. high top leather lining is a joke.. The OG at1 safaris had that plush cotton like stuff. The 2003 retros of the safaris could get away with that since it was a low.

Sloppy

Yep, safari-print overload. I was never a fan of the print, so not really feelin' these.

Oh well.

I usually shy away from this type of mashup for this reason, but given the shared history of these two models, the fact that it's the 25th anniversary, and that they appear to have decent leather, I think they're a success. The amount of safari print definitely borders on "too much of a good thing", but since there still isn't a sign of an OG Air Safari retro this year, I'll take these.
Here's a nice compilation of other models with the Safari print and colourway from a few years ago:

Nike Safari – A look back at the classic pattern & colors

With the release of two additional chapters to the Air Safari 87′s story this past Spring and Summer, we felt it was time to take a look back to the 2003 retro and some of the sneakers inspired by the Safari 87′s OG colors in the past few years since. Starting with the newest on the left the Keep Rippin Stop Slippin Air Max 1 release June 2008, the Air Force 1 Safari released April 2008, Air Oasis Safari released July 2006 and the Air Safari 87 Retro released in 2003. We also took a look at the Air Max 1 Safari designed by Atmos released in 2002.

Take a look with us at this collection of sneakers inspired by “Safari

Outlet bound if I've ever seen it. Not bad, but trainers just don't move well nowadays and most people will hold out for the regular model.

^true.
these are dope.

Lunar safaris, vtg safaris, mesh toed safaris, suede and nylon safaris... They aren't messing around this year. Now an AT1 safari. Meanwhile the AT1s are just sitting eagerly in the background for somethin'.

Yet they still haven't perfected the original

I am personally not too fond of the orange color presently associated with the safari retros.. Brighten that up a ton, and use a grey based safari print... Tan and dull orange is a bit of a downer.

Here's a thought. Just release these without the velcro, since it is so out of place. Go back to the 1988 air cross trainer high days. They think they are doing it big, But I just never feel that way with the latest trainers by Nike.. I am intrigued by the perf. leather toebox on these safaris. If that is any indication of the chlorophyll, my entire tune may change

I'm a nut for safari print, I'll get these easily, but probably won't wear them as much as I would an actual pair of Safari 87s or the Chlorophyll AT1.

The ankle piece shouldn't be safari print IMO. It just seems like too much of the print.
