What are some good ones worth checking out...I keep hearing american comedies are some $%# compared to british.  Where should I start?

The Office

Extras

The Ricky Gervais Show

An Idiot Abroad

That should be a good start

And give We Can Be Heroes and Summer Heights High a shot.  Australian shows, but absolutely hilarious.  Chris Lilley is awesome.

Also:

-Life's too short.

-Never Mind the Buzzcocks (technically a game show, but it's hilarious)

-Coupling

-Episodes (though it's not strictly a pure English comedy, it definitely had that feel to it)

-Little Britain/Come Fly With Me

will post more as it comes to me...

"How not to live your life" is a great one. its about a guy who seems lost around his life. His grandma dies and he gets her house along with grandma's assistant/butler/male maid. to pay for the house he rents it out to a girl (the hot chick to continue to watch the show for) he likes but turns out that she brings her BF. the show has a lot of "flashbacks/possible choices" like in the beginning of this episode

Please watch Peep Show. It's on Hulu (or was) and definitely on Netflix. It's the most uncomfortable yet hilarious thing going.

I am impressed that you guys know shows like How not to live your life and Coupling as well as stuff like Summer Heights High!
There always seem to be this myth that Americans don't "get" the British or Aussie sense of humor -yet every American I've come across understands our sarcasm and wit perfectly fine.

...

the language they use is funny...

thing about all these shows is that sometimes their accent is thick as hell but eventually you catch on and you get everything they're saying...

Greatest comedy show ever put on TV. Only 12 episodes, so not much in terms of quantity, but the quality is superb. Made almost 40 years ago and as hilarious as ever.
