The Fishing Thread, ANY ANGLERS ON NT ?!

I'm just about done with the Sac River.. the spot that I've been going to lately is a dud!

I use sardine filets as bait, and for the past few times I've gone I felt a couple of bites but couldn't set the hook right (I thought) and I always ended up losing my bait because of it. Yesterday I held my pole instead of leaning it onto a rock and got a few "bites" so i tried to set the hook and failed, then let my bait sit for a while longer. After a while of wondering why the biting stopped, I reeled in my bait and found out that I had set the hook right! But it wasn't a fish. It was a damn crawdad / crawfish whatever the hell.

They've been eating my bait. I'm willing to bet that they're all up and down that spot.

Also, an otter swam past my line.

Nice catch^ I caught a catfish once while fishing with my Dad when I was younger. It was at night tho.

I remember it being about half the size of that tho

This one was only about 32 inches. I held it like two inches from the camera to get that 'it's bigger than it is look'. The largest I have caught is 36 ... which is just over the minimum 'trophy' size of 34 here in Manitoba.

I had one good night where I caught a few 36 inchers. There was one guy that wasn't even trying for catfish, using a small hook, and caught a 37 inch one. That ticked me off. I don't know how that hook even went through it's lip let alone not break.

yee haw that's a big ol catfish! git r dun.
i use penn reels and a shimano stella. use g loomis and fenwick rods and a few customs.

I think one of my Uncles just held a fishing tournament on Oahu. "Kendall Scholarship Fishing Tournament" and it was just recently too within the last week.

Please fishing god I just want to catch a nice striper out here in Sacramento. Or a couple of sick largemouth bass when i go to Berryessa.

We can post pictures of our recent catches here, share some local spots for some of us who live in the same areas as others, talk about set ups, rods, lures, baits, etc.

Was hoping that we could have a successful fishing thread if there are any fellow anglers out there on NT.. I just got handed down an old setup from my Grandpa and bought my license. Went fishing out by Lake Berryessa here in California yesterday, apparently they just opened the dam so all the fish are messed up from the increased water flow speed.

I usually go for Striped Bass, but I want to start fishing for Largemouth bass also. Don't know of any good places out here though besides the Sacramento river. (Mainly Salmon and Striped Bass there though), what about you NT?

I'm out here in Sacramento too. Trying to get my fishing game on but I'm just totally unware of 1. what I'm fishing for 2. where to fish 3. what to use. I'm used to bass fishing in Florida, but really want to get accustomed to fishing out here in the Sac and American rivers.

Trying to get into fishing. My friend's father took me and him out this morning. I caught a nice sized cat-fish in the Anacostia river within 5 mins of casting out. Nothing after that.

We cut him up and I baked him with garlic, lemon juice, black pepper, and salt. Came out ok. I would prefer fried catfish but I don't want those calories.

While slaughtering the fish I thought of KSteezy and how he says he doesn't eat anything that he previously saw living.

I'm close to the Sacramento river. My boy just got a boat and I would like to take up fishing. Can someone give me some ideas of what kind of starter rods and reels I should be looking at? Thank You in advance!

I went like 2 or 4 weeks ago to captree fishing on long island. caught like 7 flounders (and threw a bunch of sharks and sting rays back).
Them flounders were tasty as hell. Cant wait to go back.

just went fishing last saturday night on my friends boat , threw up everywhere once we got out

not built for fishing .....

I only snapped a few pics. I was having too much fun to bust out the phone.
I do regret not taking a shark home tho.

Been catching a lot of small stripers in the Sac river lately( 10-15 inches) .. hopefully they start getting bigger so I can have some good dinner sometime. I've been releasing all of them.

This is the first one I caught in the river weeks ago.

1.) you're mainly fishing for Stripers and maybe Sturgeon right now. Randomly caught a tiny rainbow trout the other day though?

2.) If you drive up and down Garden Highway you'll see tons of small pathways that aren't on private property that you can fish for free. Or you can fish Discovery Park which is also on Garden but it costs to park there. Then you'll need to find a spot. I suggest you start where everyone else is fishing.

3.) If you mean bait: Stripers are biting on Anchovies right now, cut them in half and put em on the hook.
Rig- use a striper rig, meaning your line will be as follows - line , weight slider, swivel, 1-3 foot leader, hook. I fish with 3-4 ounce weights depending on how the current is that morning.

Good luck. If anything I'd say buy a pole, try it out, and if you have any problems then ask some of the other people fishing. They're always friendly and helpful out here
