People have been suggesting in the old MMA thread to start a new one. So welcome to the brand new MMA thread! As always, we can all keep this thread updated with questions, upcoming fight cards, opinions, news, fan expo locations, etc. We also welcome those who are new to MMA, and those might train or want to train in any type of Martial Arts. I hope to get more people from S&T into MMA, as it is becoming one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

Whats the deal with Fuel TV? Is it part of a certain package you have to order through your provider or is it just a matter of where you live?

I believe its a combo of both. You have to purchase it as part of a certain package you get through your sattelite/cable provider if your area has it available. But there is still a lack of availablility for Fuel TV in the U.S.. I know for sure that Comcast doesn't carry Fuel TV, and they are one of the nation's largest cable provider.

agreed. I wonder if the winner will get the next title shot against Aldo since they are struggling to find opponents. Regardless, Zombie has looked good in his last 2 fight (even though his last fight we only got to see 7 seconds of it laugh.gif), and Dustin continues to win impressively.

Not directly MMA related, but for you socal dudes, dont forget the BJJ expo this weekend down in Long Beach. Superfight between Nick Diaz and Braulio Estima. Caio Terra and Jeff Glover also have a match. I believe there is a free Roger Gracie seminar too. Hopefully I can juke the wife out, grab my gi, and head down there for a couple of hours to take in a seminar and cheer on some of my teammates who are competing.

I know Nick has like a 10% chance of winning, but I'm curious to see how his MMA BJJ translates into no-gi. I know he's never been tapped in comp before though.

UFC officially announces 6-23 site as Belo Horizonte, Brazil
  
UFC announced today at the Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Brazil would be the site of UFC 147 on 6/23.  This confirms reports the previous report in the newsletter of Belo Horizonte as the host city of the show.

UFC officials said the deal was finlized Wednesday, and on 5/16, there will be a ceremony with UFC officials Marshall Zelaznik and Jaime Pollack, city officials and Vitor Belfort, who will headline the show.

Belfort vs. Wanderlei Silva will headline along with the finals of the featherweight and middleweight tournaments on TUF Brazil, a reality how that is currently airing on Globo, the largest network in the country.


UFC announces 2 title matches  

Benson Henderson vs. Frankie Edgar will be on 8/11 in Denver.  Henderson over the weekend had said that the fight was being moved to September, but Dana White officially announced the date tonight on UFC Tonight.

White also announced that Urijah Faber would be fighting for the interim bantamweight title on 7/7 in Las Vegas.  He didn't announce the opponent, but most likely it would be either Michael McDonald or Renan Barao.  It may be announced on Friday night's Ultimate Fighter.




UFC announces big title fight for September 1st

On Twitter Wednesday night, Dana White announced that UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones will face Dan Henderson in Las Vegas, NV, on Saturday, September 1st -- expected to be UFC 151.



UFC officially announces another version of Ultimate Fighter
The long talked about U.K. vs. Australia version of Ultimate Fighter, with the goal of being on mainstream television in both countries, was officially announced today by UFC.

UFC announced tryouts for Team Australia on 6/12 in Sydney, and for Team U.K. on 6/15 in London, looking at doing a bantamweight (135 pound) and welterweight (170) weight classes.  All fighters trying out must have had three verifiable professional fights with at least two wins.

The show, called "Australia vs. U.K. - The Smashes" is expected to air in the fall with the show being taped in Sydney and the finals possibly in Brisbane.  Broadcast details for the show were not announced.


July Strikeforce main event is  

Luke Rockhold vs. Tim Kennedy for the middleweight title.  The show will be 7/14 at the Rose Garden in Portland.

May 12, 2012 - Nick Diaz failed to show up to his Brazilian jiu-jitsu superfight against Braulio Estima, and as of Saturday night, his manager and trainer couldn't answer why.

Cesar Gracie told MMAFighting.com following the conclusion of the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo that he had no idea why Diaz didn't show up. 

"I know he was mad when he was told Braulio would not make weight last night," Gracie said. "No one has seen him today. Braulio ended up making weight this morning."

Following the Diaz no-show, Estima challenged him to an MMA fight. BJJ star Robert Drysdaleoffered to replace Diaz but Estima had no interest in fighting a replacement.

"I came to fight Nick Diaz," he said.

Happy Chiesa won on TUF

I always thought there was a decent chance Diaz would no-show the fight, he is a weird dude, but for some reason I still root for the guy.

Watching Primetime now, hope JDS knocks Mir's head off. Really looks like he is grinding his ground game for this one too.

People were talking about how good and exciting the Chiesa/Roberts fight from TUF was. Personally, I hate seeing gassed guys fight. Henderson v Shogun was one thing as they got gassed late in a 5 rd fight. But these are two young guys who were gassed early in the 2nd round. Chiesa's refusal to attempt takedowns really annoyed me as well.
