Has anyone here participated in a Tough Mudder? If so, any suggestions? I have heard to get trail running shoes, and wear compression pants and long sleeve compression shirt underneath shorts and a t-shirt. Any other suggestions? I'm doing a Tough Mudder in mid July. Have been doing some weight training and running occasionally, but my main form of cardio has been from playing some basketball. Just looking for any advice.
Thanks!

I'm signed up for Whistler's event end of June. Pretty excited for it

I've watched a few headcam youtube videos, I'm pretty sure I can handle it, although some of the others on my team...

do minorities ever partake in these events?

speakin for myself, the tm and wd (both norcal) i went to were about 25% minorities, and i was one of them

Just ran the Rugged Maniac 5K a couple of weeks ago...this was dominated by obstacles and lots of hill running in the mud.

Some advice:

-Wear light clothing....do not wear layers.  This race had us covered in mud from head to toe.  Crawling under barbwire in puddles of mud and all kinds of stuff.  I didn't heed this advice and was forced to lug around an extra body's worth of mud.
-Eat something before running and don't drink to heavy the night before
-Have fun

I would definitely do another...I thought it would be cake a few weeks after I ran a 10K and this was more difficult than the 10K or my lack of preparation didn't help either.

The group you run with makes a huge difference too.

I went yesterday at 2:20 in Frederick, MD.

I'm still trying to find my calf muscles.

Completed my first one this past weekend in Tahoe. Was not able to train for it as much as I wanted too because i injured my foot a couple months before the event.

Went in completely blind, did not research any of the obstacles, only looked up what type of clothing to wear. Trail running shoes, compression socks and shorts, knee pads, and a hat is what I went with and all of it was worth every penny. Might think of wearing sleeves if I do another one.

I'd say the Cry Baby obstacle was the only one that tested me physically and mentally because I have never experienced tear gas. Other courses that were physically challenging were Hold Your Wood 2.0, Berlin Walls, and Funky Monkey 2.0

Overall I had much more fun that I thought I would have. Witnessing everyone help each other made it easier to complete the course.
