Reebok Answer IV's August 2012?

Hey bros,

I've gone through this thread and opinions are mixed on the Answer IV retro. It seems like copping them for

Quality is not as good because it doesn't include true DMX cushioning, and instead uses the foam. New ppl to this shoe say quality is great (which the leather and all is fine), but OG heads know the difference. Also, the face at the bottom is rubber instead of metal, and it doesn't have the performance sockliner and instead uses a standard foam sockliner.

Thanks for the reply my dude. Guess people are so sick of plastic junk (Flywire/Hyperfuse and the Reebok/Adidas/UA counterparts) that full grain leather trumps all shortcomings.

I'll wait it out and try to get these for less than $100.

might be hard to do that now that re-sellers stole them all from online retailers and probably stores now (probably when stores capitalized on the "limited' moniker and made them buy them).

he wore these the rest of the finals. the reverse black and white which were pretty sick. i cant wait for the red/grey ones either though. 2/2 iverson releases.

even that one that's on allen's feet is slightly different then the one eastbay had as a team shoe.

almost the same, but not quite.

(for comparison purposes)

thanks to the dude that made this happen, if you read this. you know who you are.

I grabbed these inverse joints as well a few years back. Reebok released them for the anniversary. real hush hush, i had no idea until i saw somebody trying to sell them. i hopped on quick. they came in the older reebok blue box. the IV has always been one of my goat shoes, so i hop every time i see a fresh pair. (that are good quality, not this crap they just dropped.)

I hear you brother! Resellers have basically ensured that the Kamikaze, ES22, etc. retros will be lacking several tech features.

I got the ones released in 2005-06 as well and the quality on those was terrible.  The only thing they had was the performance sockliner.  I copped an OG pair from eBay (along with my old OG all white lows from 2001) and compared the quality and it wasn't even close.  Reebok cheaped out on them with bad leather, no DMX and all that.  Now, they put decent leather one but took away the sockliner and DMX again on the 2012 retros.

I only copped these because: 1. they look hard and are my all time favorite shoe and what got me in the shoe game.  Even without DMX, they're fresh and turn heads (plus Iverson is my fav player of all time). 2. I thought they might actually use real cushioning in the 2012 Answer IV Retro since they put real Hexalite back into the 2012 Question retro (which Rbk didn't put any cushioning on the 2005 and 2009 Question retro either, just like they cheaped out on the Answer IV in 2005).

I think the person who sold them to you in the old blue Rbk box just did it with his old Rbk box from the 90's maybe and not the real ones, because I remember seeing this exact colorway on Eastbay.  This was back in 2005, and I ordered the OG colorway (Black,Grey,Red at the bottom with reflective 3M) and it came in the I3 Box (which the OG Answer IV came in as well).  The only blue box Rbk recently released (within the past like 10 years that is) was the 2012 Question Limited Retro.  Other than that, Rbk has been using the I3 Rbk boxes...

It's funny.  The Foot Locker rep claimed that they "tried to get the DMX technology right in them, but they couldn't and will release the true DMX technology in the exclusive ones".  By "exclusive ones", he was talking about the White/Red/3M Grey colorway.  If that is true, I will be p/o'd and be done with Reebok for good, but I highly doubt they would do that.  I was also told by Nightwing2303 that Reebok no longer has the rights to the DMX I-Pak technology they they had the rights to in '01, so that is why they had to use DMX Foam because they own the NAME "DMX" but not the actual technology....

I can't imagine why they wouldn't have the I-pak tech anymore,it was developed by them in their walking divison (I'm fairly sure). Shrugs, frustrating regardless

Anyone tried these for ball yet? How's the cushion, traction and comfort etc.

I remember my OG was nice on the court except for some breatheability issue and the zipper never stay fully zipped.

Trying to break mine in and they're getting a little better, but they kinda suck compared to the OG.  played in them once, and now that I've been walking in them for a while it  seems like the cushioning is breaking in (feels like it could actually be a decently foam cushioned shoe, but it's weird feeling that coming from the OG air flow of DMX).  Will try to play today again to see if things improve with them.  Traction is the s*** though....really good traction.  They fit big however after breaking them in, and I might sell my 2001 Questions to get the money for a smaller size..

Trackstar, thanks for the solid input on the Answer IVs. It's good to know that there are a few Reebok fans here!

Thanks man.  Yea, I used to have a lot of shoes (Penny IV was my favorite before the Answer IV), but the Answer IV was what made me truly study sneaker technology and ever since then it was downhill lol.  If I had enough money and everything like that I would love to just hoop in shoes and review them all day lol.....

I plan on playing in my Answer IV's today, so I'll let you guys know again how things thing out.  These retros started out REALLY blocky feeling, and I'm not quite sure if the OG Mids started out that way.  The Answer IV's I had as a kid were size 13 (way too big for me then, even today I'm a size 9.5), and they were the White/White/Black lows, but I loved them so much I didn't care that they fit extra huge and still crossed ppl in them.  I even colored them with paint, pens, markers, etc to make them the colorways I had always wanted but never got.  Anyway, they start out really block and clunky feeling, but after wearing them around, running, and playing in them a little bit (around 3 hours of basketball total) you can feel them getting their "smooth" transitional feel instead of the blocky, fresh-out-of-the-box feeling.  The traction is still butter thanks to the forefoot herringbone (and solid black non-marking rubber outsole).  Outside of the cushioning, they pretty much perform (from what I remember) pretty identical to the OG (again, keep in mind I only had the lows in a size way too big for me, so I don't exactly know HOW the OG mids performed).  I did manage to get an OG pair from eBay, but they were kind of beat beyond playability, plus the DMX had gone down to a level that was basically un-playable and only for walking lol.

Honestly, with the DMX situation, I'm hoping they improved it to where it can feel kind of similar to the old system, but provide the performance benefits foams can provide today.  For example, adidas adiprene  in the new adidas line is very comfortable (Reebok is owned by adidas now, btw, so keep that in mind when I speak about the cushioning...), as well as other foams such as Micro-G cushioning.  If they've gotten DMX Foam to feel like that then honestly I'm all in.  Would I like a feeling similar to the OG's?  Yes, but I always want these to perform, and although the DMX from the past was comfortable, it got to a point to where it seemed like the air when down and kept getting lower and lower; nearly to the point to where all you felt was midsole anyway.  The OG sockliner provided a lot of comfort to make up for it, but I hated the feeling of my Answer IV DMX having no more DMX air lol.

I do remember they had taken DMX out of the Answer line for the first time with the Answer VI.  They then brought it back with the Answer VII, but I'm pretty sure it was the DMX Foam implementation.  I know the old Kicksology site (Prof. K) had a review up of them, but I don't think anyone has that review (if someone does PLEASE HOOK ME UP, as I have the old saved Kicksology.net files but the last Answer review is the Answer VI).  I know they also implemented the DMX Foam with the Answer VIII, and I can't find a review for those shoes at all.  If I had an reviews for those shoes I would have an idea of what to expect from the DMX in these (I believe) once the shoes are broken in.  I do know that whatever cushioning they implemented in the Answer X in the forefoot was VERY comfortable, and if these feel like those when broken in then I'm all for the new DMX system.  The DMX Foam in the Answer XII was comfortable too.

Anyway, that is my input so far.  I still love these shoes with a passion, I plan on selling my OG 2001 Questions to get the money for the next release of the Questions (unless my wife doesn't mind me taking the money out of our account lol).  If anyone has the reviews for the Answer VII and Answer VIII please let me know, as this would help in seeing what DMX Foam feel like, or provide any input on DMX Foam....

just copped a pair for 90.

used the $25 off coupon for FL/FA/champs.

couple things. i went a 1/2 size down but im only walkin around in em. if i was playin ball i'd go TTS. they do seem to be a 1/2 size too big tho. as far as the lack of cushioning, i have noticed there is not much bounce to these but i havent worn the OG version so i have nothing to really compare them to...

all in all, im cool.
