really nice album. Save The Children, Piece of Mind, Hazeus View, Belly of the Beast, Christ Conscious and Escape 120 are all on repeat.

I really dig this album. Very good debut by Joey....I am glad he stayed with his production team that fits his sound. Bonus tracks are awful and forced but I never judge bonus tracks when judging an album

Standout songs (excluding the first 2 singles) for me thus far on first listen:
Save The Children
Paper Trails
Piece of Mind
Like Me
No 99
On & On
Black Beetles
Curry Chicken

Album has a really good smooth and cohesive sound to it.

So I can't give a good review since I only gave it one listen this morning but it seems like a solid album. Nothing fantastic unfortunately but solid debut.

Lupe's offering def. perked my ears up as well. Might even outshine this.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the album bro. I think we've shared the same feelings on the music in the past so I'm looking forward to giving this a spin later tonight.

Really like this album. Lupe kinda stole the show, but Joey put a great debut out. Some of the faster paced songs I can't really get into, but I appreciate him trying to expand his style.

Paper Trails is so good.

Paper Trails is really that good man! I can't stop playing that and Save The Children but HTTB I listened to T&Y after this last night and I really liked some songs and really disliked some songs. I have to give it another listen but after first listen I liked Joeys album much better.

Enjoy.

Joey also gifts his fans with this freebie celebrating his birthday (which is also today).

Lupe's album just felt so much deeper and mature to me. I feel like Joey is still finding his way, and in that making mistakes; whereas Lupe knows who he is. He knows what he wants to say and exactly how he wants to say it.

I think Joey can get to that place, but he still sounds somewhat unsure and all over the place at times. Tetsuo & Youth just flows so well for me.

I still have to sit with both for a while, because it usually takes me a minute for an album to click for me.

might have to do with Joey just turnin' 20 while Lupe is 32...might

Uh...yeah. Obviously that's the reason why.

That's my main point. It's not a knock on Joey, it's just the truth. He's young. He's ridiculously talented for his age, but just like Lupe at that age he's still trying new sounds trying to get his niche. I'm not saying he won't get there or there's something wrong with him trying different things. I actually applaud that.

But, in my opinion, taking chances and trying different sounds could lead to some missteps. It's inevitable as a young artist.

^Fair points my dude.

To be honest I need to give Lupe's album a really strong listen. I was tired when listening last night but I will say that I felt it was his best work since the cool upon first listening. The album is very layered and I could see myself appreciating it more after a few more listens.

Overall I agree with your points on Joey finding himself as an aritst. With that being said I think he did a very good job with his debut....the album is a really good listen and outside of the awful bonus tracks (which don't factor into my critique of an album) I think he did well with having an overall sound for the album.

If I had one critique is that I wish Joey would give us a bit more of his story/personal feelings like he did on "Curry Chicken "(excellent song to close the album). I think he has all the tools to be a great rapper and a bit more introspection from him will add to diversity in his music.

After 3 listens to I will give this a 4.25/5 rating.

I am happy to see Joey's sound has grown/varied without abandoning the NY sound.

I will also add this is the best album debut by a NY rapper in a long time!!
