Quick question about shoe box tissue & silica packs.

I've heard that it's good to take these things out of the shoebox because they "absorb moisture," but I've also heard it's took to leave them in the box for the same reason.

Which one is true?
 
The papers dye/ink can dye onto shoes over time. Correct me if I'm wrong, I cant remember anymore. Too many silica packs can dry out your shoes causing then to crumble over time. The method I learned is simple. Wear them and store them in a cool climate controlled dark area (like your closet). I usually fold the paper flat in the box and put my shoes in food service bags (not zip lock) individually and leave them in the closet.
 
How long till the tissue papers bleed to the shoes? Had mine DS for about a year, nothing yet happend.?
 
Depends on heat/humidity of where you're at, too. It's not universal. Changes of temperature and humidity make the Eva expand and contract, and this repeated will dry it out causing it to stiffen and crack. Just try and keep that constant. I have some 20 year old shoes that are still perfectly wearable.
 
I didn't know this. I've just always folded the paper and put my shoes on top and leave it in my closet. But I'll do anything I can to have my kicks in prestine condition over time.

Not like it matters but all the paper is out of my shoe boxes except for all the 3s that released in 2011 and the 4s from this year.

My Concords sit on top of the paper.

Wonder if that has sped up the slight yellowing on them?

Anyways, I didn't know putting silica packs in the boxes makes the shoes crumble over time.

I never put my shoes in the ziploc bags because the shoes have breathe, even if you have worn them before.

But this seems like years have to pass before you see this.

Except for yellowing, that only takes a few months, if not stored "properly" like how I didn't do with my Concords.

personally i think its all humidity issue. I lived in Houston and have shoes in og box with paper for over 10 years and have no problems. Seems the only discoloring of paper are only from shoes i bought off ebay and online that are 5+ years old and i dont really know how and where they were stored
 
Silica pack crumble/yellows shoes

Paper doesnt do anything. Just store em as they came and you'll be fine. This is coming from a guy whos had wearable Jordans that were 20-25 yrs old.

I keep all of my shoes in the box w/ their paper...

But I put about 5-6 silica packets in each box under the paper to pull moisture away, not out of the shoes.
 
I get rid of the paper. The only shoe that has the paper in is the 2012 cement 4s. I store them on a shelf with 1-2 silica packets in a box and i rotate by leaving the shoes out for a couple of days, even if they're not being worn. the 25th anniversary 3s i have and laker 6s have no yellow at all. i change silica packets every 2-3 months, when THEY turn yellow. I'm terrified to try the ziplock bag method. I also keep my room with my shoes at 75-79 degrees maximum.
 
I have silica packets in my metallic 5s and concords hoping it will prevent any further yellowing other than from wear. I don't think ill have to worry about crumbling with those 2.. but with other older kicks I wouldnt keep them in
 
I keep everything in the box. I put the receipt in the bottom of the box as well. Rock the shoes people, dont let them rock you!
 
Resurrecting old thread: Have you guys found success with the silica gel packs? I was thnking of buying a pack for my collection.
