Im Moving: From New York to Orlando

Real talk, Orlando is poppin. They party ALOT down there. It seems like there are jobs there, and the people are hella cool. People from Orlando are pretty laid back for the most part, but they also seem pretty wild. It seems like every third person in Orlando is doing some lowkey illegal ****, whether white collar crime or just scams etc., and it seems like everyone's on drugs.

I really am from NYC . I'm from Manhattan and I am down and out currently which is what brings me to Florida. I'm not working nor do i have transportation and etc.. I just got a florida ID card the other day and that took forever... lord have mercy the amount of hispanics here is outrageous... I ran into one black guy at the barber shop, I didn't even see any blacks at the super walmart and it was packed.

i live in a suburb part with my mother and her husband.. i'm like the 3rd wheel in the house.. so the vibe for me being on the edge is something you can guess.

I went down to Orlando last Fall for a weekend to play golf with some co-workers. We played in the Ritz-Carlton and Walt Disney World resorts.

Aside from the Disney area and a ton of places to play golf--I can't see anything else to do there. Most of the locals are either from South America or back up in New York

I wouldn't move down there personally unless I had some sort of opportunity waiting for me that would far surpass my living conditions at the moment.

OP, if you're just hanging out down there and not working in some sort of job that has incredible potential professional growth (most likely not) then i'd get out of FL as fast as I could. There's not much to do down there and the job outlook isn't so crazy.

If you don't want to move back to NYC or can't afford the rent, then i'd suggest you move to the DMV area. There's supposedly a ton of jobs out there and housing is supposed to be affordable.

I didn't want to leave because im on section 8 in albany ny and it's a special section 8.. i told me mother i was leaving the other day and she had a fit... idk how to leave her house without her getting upset and telling me no... she really said no. i want to leave idk why.. i just dont want to spend the time here.. because 9 times outta 10 im not going to meet anyone.

Bruh don't worry about meeting anyone. You can do that through intramural leagues like they said above or through your job.

Just get a job somewhere, and start with that.

What kind of job is OP going to get that's open in Orlando? Working in WalMart or Best Buy? Let's be serious here. If he went to Albany for school, at least OP needs to find a job closely related to his major down there (doubtful).

Do yourself a favor, OP. Go back to NYC or a major city.

Your best best op is to find a job and stack up some cash. It really doesn't matter what city your in because with out money your going to be bored.

Try to get back into to school some how because a regular job in FL is going to maintain a New Yorker.

I did an internship with Disney (lake buena vista) straight out of school and once it ended I took myself back up north.

Finish school + find a job in your field of study = relaxing in Fl

Cost of living in Fl is dirt cheap.

one week is not a long time , brah
I moved to Hilo , Hawaii from the Bay Area, knowing nobody
(Before you say it's paradise- Hilo is on the east side of the big island. very small town. and does not have typical hawaii weather/beaches)
The first month was just utter **** bc I was so sad
I was lonely, but I wasn't doing anything to help myself

I would ask you to be patient, knowing that that's incredibly difficult for young people
secondly, and more importantly. is this a life worth living?
change what you're doing, or you will continue to stew in nothingness.
talking to the people around you is going to help you loads more than a messageboard full of anonymous posters.
there have been a lot of good ideas in this thread for you, but it's nothing you haven't heard before.
i see you asking people on here to hang out...
and I know it's easier bc we're all behind screens... but is that really the only effort you're willing to make to improve your current situation?
You're 27. Ain't nobody gunna give you ****. So go get it. Or you'll continue on this path.

i understand. im just confused as to where i want to go and be in my life right now... it's not as easy as it seems. im doing all this without a roof over my head mainly it's been tough for me since me and my girlfriend broke up. i havent been the same. and ive been getting sick outta nowhere these days. it's all whats slowing me down. sorry dude. i'm try harder. my parents are the only ones i can talk to and they don't understand why i want toleave orlando already.

I have no idea what I want to do either, man. most people at this age do not.
you know why adults always ask kids what they wanna be when they grow up? because they're looking for ideas :D
Kevin Spacey said talked about the phenomena of all these young people just "meandering" through young adulthood
meandering is so fitting, man i love it

so your girl broke up with you, you're in a new place, and you're lonely. okay got that.
tell me this. What could happen RIGHT NOW that would make your life better? Perfect world, brah-- whats happenin
do not say "win the lottery" or i WILL FLY TO ORL AND HUNT YOU DOWN

AND. I'm confused as to who you're living with right now? it's not your parents? then where are you staying

I'm staying with my mother. What could be fitting is my getting my own place again. I just got kicked out because i didnt have the rent. the first time in a year. i had a medical episode which caused me to miss my monthly payment on the rent. my only time in 3 years i had a place to stay was my own apartment for a year. i think im going to cancel my ambitions for now and concentrate on living single. I just want my own place to come home to and go to sleep.

Homie it sounds like you're in a pretty low place. Orlando doesn't seem to be the issue. Usually when I'm in a space like that, I refocus my energy on improving my health (nutrition and working out) and reading.

If you haven't read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series yet, I recommend it. All three books are phenomenal. Another book I really liked was The Big Short by Michael Lewis. It' breaks down the '08 financial crash in laymans terms. Very interesting read.

Matta fact, I aint read a good book in a minute. I need some recs people.

Okay, so-- patience. you can't have it all and you can't have it now.
living with your mom. thats fine. you need to stack papes to make living on your own a reality. you can even stack and then get a spot with your brother
you're rent free with your mom. you may not like it, but learn to like the fact that you can literally save ALL of your money besides that which buys food.
do you have a job?
