What's up with Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners??

Why can't he win the big games? This is a list of the last 5 bowl games they've been in

2003 National Championship: LSU:21 Oklahma:14
2004 National Championship: USC:55 Oklahoma:19

So they've lost in every BCS Bowl (05 being the exception game since 03........

They haven't been prepared to play in the BCS Bowl games...... IMO, Stoops just doesn't prepare his players right.

Don't get he wrong he's a great coach but why haven't they won the biggames? Are the players really that nervous? Another possibility is that there are too many players brought in because of theirmeasurables, but they can't convert it into success on the field when facing a well-prepared opponent. To me it's no surprise that the teams that playthe Sooners well are the better coached teams - the other coaching staff realizes that the back seven plays very aggressively and can easily be caught out ofposition, especially the safeties. Part of the blame lies on the Sooners coaching staff, but at some point you also have to blame the players because they arethe ones that have to go out there and get the job done.

Uhhh, why dont u add the Nat'l Championship that he won vs Florida State. tell the whole story, not just the stuff that supports what youwant to convey

I would take Stoops over every coach out there. Next to JT and Petey.
 
Stoops gets insane talent... dude recruits better out of texas than texas does.

I think he's real good, one of the best, but something is off.

I know for a FACT that his bowl preparation has been lax, and he lets his boys pretty much do whatever they want. (Trust, I just spent a week withthem

Mack Brown trash sefl ant passed stoops

stoops OU teams have a @$!! load of talent but he dont prepare them right for bowl games he thinks on talent alone can win the game and does no game changesfor his team.

As someone who's followed the Sooners my whole life. I agree with the post starter. We haven't been the same since we lost brother Mike Stoops, ourDefensive schemes are trash. But don't blame any of this on the players, I believe this is all coaching problems. The players just aren't asdisciplined and focused as much as they should be, and thats the coach's fault.

Also, it seems like Stoops doesn't play "Sooner Football" anymore. Everything is too plain and conservative, def not Sooner Football.

I think he may be BS'n till Mike Stoops gets back I dunno...
 
The Bowl Season losses are on Bob Stoops and only Bob Stoops. He's a great coach, but when you've got 45+ days to prepare for a team, there'sabsolutely no reason to be as unprepared as they seem to have been over the last handful of years. Year in and year out, the Sooners can run through anybodyduring the regular season based on talent alone, but when it comes Bowl time and teams have 2 months to dissect every move your team has made over the courseof the season, it's almost obvious that Stoops hasn't done nearly as much homework as his opponents have.

in the meantime, Stoops has lost 4 straight BCS bowls, one of them was a straight massacre top to bottom, another was a massacre by a team with no coach, another one was them being dominated for 3.5 quarters and eventually embarassed by a WAC team with nowhere near the talent he had.

as of right now, Mack Brown is accomplishing more than Stoops. i like Stoops, and if i'm an AD i would never hire Mack Brown over Stoops, that would be pretty foolish IMO. but you've gotta measure a coach by what he's doing with what he has, and Mack Brown has been doing that over Stoops in recent years. and Stoops and Brown recruit from more or less the same talent pool.

Vince Young won Mack Brown a Rose Bowl and National Championship.

It took two HISTORIC performances from Vince to win 2 really close games.

I wonder the same about Frank Beamer, although VT is nowhere near the level Oklahoma is. At least he has won a National Championship though.
 
Stoops OWNS Mack. PERIOD. Mack has won absolutely NOTHING WITHOUT VINCE!.. he has one 1 conference championship in his coaching career and that was with Vince.Mack would do some nasty things that would only be legal in Nevada to win a BIG 12 title without Vince.

I'll give you that, while Stoops is losing in BCS bowls, Brown is winning Alamo Bowls and Cotton Bowls. Those are quality Bowl wins.

Lets not forget that Bob Stoops is 5-1 in Big 12 Championship Games while the choke artist known as Mack Brown is 1-2. Oh and there is that 6-3 record againstBrown. not too mention he has the best record among coaches in BCS conferences.

That defense that night made one crucial stop on the Lendale run....USC was moving up and down the field pretty easily, even without Reggie playing a greatgame

The D played well enough when they had to, but it wasn't anything to write home about

I never seen a one man performance like Vince that night


As far as Oklahoma, I've felt for the past few years their talent has been overrated
 
To be honest with you I think Stoops has serious issues motivating his team to bring it every game. I know teams have bad games but the team we saw in theFiesta Bowl seemed uninterested.
