Introducing the Microsoft Surface

"ipad killer" is a marketing ploy...and also having an "ipad" in the search tag helps get the story out.

Not even microsoft thinks they can depose apple, cmon now

Why do people feel like they have to part of one "team"??? Enjoy good products from any company, everybody's got strengths and weaknesses.

But yeah I'd have no problems with Windows 8 if it was solely for tablets. And this thing looks pretty damn sweet, I made the mistake once trying to replace a laptop with a tablet though so I'll be passing on this.

When are one of these supposed "killers" of Apple products actually going to do some killing?

How many different iPhone/iPod "killers" have come and gone over the past 5 years?

Did anyone watch the keynote?  Dude's surface crashes at the 14min mark.  Has to run and grab a new one.  I know this is not the final product.....but i think i will hold onto my ipad 2 until surface 2 comes out and maybe then i will consider it.

I am in the market for a new laptop only because i can't download music directly to my ipad and use it to update my phone (not through itunes obviously).  And when i buy a CD (yes i still buy some CDs) i want to load it to my itunes and update my phone with it.  If this tablet allows me to do that maybe i will think about buying it trading in my ipad and using it as a one stop solution.  Even though i am in love with my ipad2 (its jailbroken so i think that really makes me like it a lot more then i would on standard OS)

This tablet doesn't have any type of CD/DVD Tray built-in.  For you to do that you'd have to attach an external USB CD/DVD Drive.  But yeah you can rip/burn CDs/DVDs if you get that.

Call me a skeptic or Apple fanboy, but i think this product will sell like crap. It looks too bulky and isn't ascetically pleasing. The operating system it runs does not help it much either. I used the consumer preview of Windows 8 and was not impressed. "Tablet PC's" have been done before and they all failed miserably. USB ports? Kickstand? Someone please tell me why I would get this over an iPad+Keyboard setup or an 11-inch Macbook Air?

Thanks man.  I always found it weird that i couldn't hook my phone to my ipad or get itunes for my ipad and use it to update my phone.

And to Jay Gutta.  Its all user preference.  This thing has USB's and HDMI out it basically has the computing power (at leas the upscale model) of a mid grade laptop but has the portability of a tablet and touch screen interface.  I think everything is hinged on PRICE and WIN 8.  I honestly have heard good things about WIN 8 for the most part.  But i worry this thing will be over $1,000 and price itself out of the market a bit.  But i think its really good looking and i think the kick stand and keyboard are great and well designed.  I think it has a lot of potential.  But its all up to the OS really

Sorry Operating Systems powered by Microsoft.. You know damn well what I was talking about.

a week later...forgotten.

pretty much how it'll be after launch.

i think people do want another competitor badly vs the ipad but the competition has yet to step up. this probably wont have legs until the next version.

A bit overpriced but I still want to get the Pro, just waiting on release info and reviews.

I'm really liking the Windows 8 interface on tocuhscreen devices.

the Pro version is hot but why would i get that over the macbook air when the prices are nearly the same and the air is actually THINNER?
the RT version is hot but why would i get that over the ipad when the prices are nearly the same but the resolution is worse on the RT?

I really wanted a tablet, but I have an MB Air so buying the Pro version makes NO SENSE when its thicker than my air..
buying the RT version makes no sense because its subpar to the ipad... and I really don't wanna buy an Ipad and be an apple fan boy lol.

decisions decisions.

If you wanna compare with space, $499 for a 32GB is actually a better deal than the new iPad which is $499 for the 16GB.  It's all a matter if Windows 8 RT is better than iOS 6.

^I'm actually going through decisions myself.  I have the new iPad, but was thinking about selling it and getting either a Macbook Air or a Windows 8 Pro hybrid tablet. Or just getting the Surface RT now and having that to hold me over till the Pro version comes out or get whatever hybrid is coming out now. Pretty much the only reason the Pro has over the Macbook Air is it's touchscreen capabilities.  It would make the decision even easier if Apple made a Macbook Air/iPad hybrid but that ain't happenin anytime soon.
