I was wondering this too. My best guess is that since the draft is gonna be happening less than a week after the Finals end, they are trying to speed up the off season process leading up to the draft.
It is kinda weird tho since the first trade usually happens during the draft

@hornets247 Hearing that Demps is planning on making a run at a young center this summer. Who would you prefer if price were the same: Hibbert or McGee?
@hornets247 The Hornets can give Gordon and Hibbert or McGee big contracts and still have money for a max deal next summer.
Pairing Hibbert and Davis makes a whole lot of sense, but I feel like the Pacers would match almost anything for him.

They will.
So, your best bet is to overpay McGee.

All I'm saying is that it's #!% backwards for KG to be making 21.1 mil at age 36. He's not the Big Ticket anymore

Steve Nash expressed interest in signing with the Knicks when he becomes a free agent July 1.

"The Knicks are a great franchise and I live in New York City (each summer), so I'd definitely consider them if they were interested," Nash said.

Nash will explore all of his options in free agency.

"I want to wait and see what's actually on the table," he said. "I'm open and excited. I'm looking at every possibility right now. It sounds like there are a number of teams that are interested."
He says that to the public, behind closed doors everyone close to him says he has a better shot going to the Raptors.

Yea, but that may not be Demps "plan" if he wants a young center this summer.

But, let's say he doesn't do anything right now. What happens next offseason when the Hornets need a center? Make a push for Dwight?

Howard, Bynum, Pekovic...

Anthony Davis? That opens the door for power forwards. Jefferson, Millsap...

Next year's draft, a trade...

Hell, maybe they take another post player seven days from now.

It's not really something I'm concerned about. There's a solution in there somewhere.

Mitch better get some #%## done soon...I'm talking some moves draft night to get it rolling. Dwight/Deron or bust.

Thunder trade Harden/Ibaka/Draft picks/ anything else Orlando wants for Dwight

Dwight
Durant
Westbrook

Would love to see this happen.
Oh and McGee and AD would have

potential as a shot blocking unit, but that wouldn't be the smartest guy in the world to put next to your #1 pick. Both would probably average just about 3 blocks a game though. Hibbert I think you'd have to give him the whole max for the Pacers to consider not matching your offer. Dwight or Bynum ain't coming no matter what you offer so don't even list them as a possibility and Pekovic would probably only leave Minny if you overpaid the *++% out of him to the point the Wolves won't match. Guess the smartest thing the Hornets can do is just roll with Ayon, Jason Smith and a mid-level type free agent for their big men next to AD for now. They aren't making the playoffs next year, so you can grab a center in the lottery then instead of giving stupid money to McGee or Hibbert.

I mean, you mostly just said a bunch of !+%* that I already said.

But I don't think Bynum would turn down the Hornets just because they're the Hornets like Howard would. And keep in mind they could have enough money for a second max player alongside him, combined with Gordon, Davis and a 2013 probable lottery pick. Will there be better options? In the short-term, but he can get paid just as much by the Hornets, and play with a bunch of other young dudes who have a shot at something special.

Really though, I'm not even into all that max players-type !+%*. I live for the rebuild and the development. Gordon, Davis, Ayon, Smith, Aminu, Vasquez, certain choices at 10 and another lottery choice next year (I really like the thought of pairing Davis and James McAdoo) is a great start. Especially curious to see how Aminu develops if he goes into next season as the starter. I never had a lot of hope for him, but he came on a little bit late last year. And Ayon has the chance to be a good player in the league for awhile. Not someone who will start next to Davis, but one of the best reserve post players in the league.

That'd be a hard trio to contain.

I'd take that in a heart beat. Do it Hennigan!

So Howard turns down the Hornets because theyre the Hornets but not the Thunder because they are the Thunder?

That OKC lineup would be crazy but Dwight likes the big market.

He can't even handle Orlando. Orlando.

It might be fun to say Nash to New York, but you guys are forgetting they have no cap room to sign him. They'd have to cut or buy someone out, then Nash would most likely have to play for a drastic pay cut.
