Moving to a spot and this is all they have. I`m use to comcast and I hear its exactly like it, I`m straight on doing Satellite, its cheap but when the weather is bad so is the tv, I was looking up ATT u verse but it looks weird and I don't think its available where I`m going.
How is it?

my boy in plattsburgh has it and says its horrible, up and down (mostly down) internet speeds and terrible customer service

i switched from verizon fios to charter express internet and its about the same speed but cheaper
gave me no problems so far ive been using it for half a year

i usually get 20-23 and on fios i get around 25

My roommate gets a discount, that's the only reason we still have it.

I love Charter, I pay $27-28 a month after tax.

They let me keep my Best Buy discount even though its been 18months since I've worked there. Internet is great. TV sucks though, I recently switched to DirecTV since I get a discount on that from my new job.

Yeah I have their cable/internet/phone service.

The costs are so expensive, don't even do it. Their internet speed is quite good though. I use to always have shotty internet connection wit' them a couple of years ago but it's slowed down with the interrupts.

Oh and the variety of channels isn't bad. Decent.

^I found out that if you get in on a promotional price (like $35 for first 6 months then 54.99 after that) and you call in a few weeks before the promotion prices goes away and tell them you're going to cancel they will keep you at the promotion price. They did that for my neighbors and they've been doing that for over a year now.

How are you guys getting these deals?

And what are your thoughts on satellite ? Is it that bad when the weathers bad? With Comcast I could watch tv and be on the web during a hurricane, don't wanna lose tv every time it rains.

Would a say dish network x charter Internet be the best combo?

If you are cool with someone at Best Buy I would ask them to see if any promotions are going on and you could say that person is a member of your household and get the deal. When I first got Charter I joined a promo at 29.99 a month for 6 months. After that it went up to 44.99 when I found our that Best Buy had a deal where if you signed up as an employee of BB you got 50% off. And even though I haven't worked for BB in over 18 months Charter still allows my discount price.

Just employee number. Try it with your number. My # worked for almost 18months before it got booted out of the system. Now I just use my old roommates number, he still works mobile for BB. Worth a try anyways, and if they try to verify just give them an email address to communicate with you.

Charter is garbage for TV. They have been using the same OS since the early 2000s. DVR boxes are huge and not even wireless. I'd take any other service over Charter. They are the worst TV provider ever. I avoid watching TV sometimes because it is so bad.

Internet is okay. Pretty much the same as any of the other services.

Good luck w/ Charter OP. I pray that you have patience.

Charter = :evil:

Just realized this was a 3+ year old thread was about to address those earlier posts.

Anyway, im from GA so i had comcast before but been living in MT the past 4 years now. We have Charter which bought Optimum who were ok. Its slim pickings pretty much here you can go charter, dish, direct, or an independent. Or even ATT or Verizon.

Charter is the best you can get with a realiable signal. On any given good weather day its all the same between dish direct and charter.

Charter was actually about to start charging us almost $60 more a month because the promo period ended, so we cancelled and were going to direct which offered like $130ish promo for 2 years. Well in my area the fastest internet is charter so thats what i was calling to get. Long story short after hearing we cancelled another rep offered us some.deal they got for $110 price lock for 3 years tv (70) and internet (40). The DVR cable box is about the size of a bluray player, the standard cable box is the size of a little portable dvd players from back in the day. Yes they do have wires but its w/e no even a big deal to me i have an entertainment stand thats hides it all

The internet i have i tested on ookla and my DL was 56mbps (they advertise up to 60) and UL was around 30. Its definitely nuch improved than it was a cpl of years ago. I can stream, use wifi on my phone ipad n comp all together no slow down or lag. Helps if your router supports heavy use too.

Not sure i can speak compared to others since its limited competition where i live.
