Official Louie Season 3 Thread ~ S03E13 - New Year's Eve

I felt bad for Louie and his daughter.. she really wanted to spend some quality time with her dad and that evil and awful kid ruined it.

I also loved Louie not caring that he told the kid his mom was wrong  no damns given

I hope his youngest daughter, Jane, doesn't learn to pronounce words correctly anytime soon.

Her nonchalant, almost condescending, attitude while she's telling Louie her sister left the house was pretty funny.

She reacted as if it were perfectly normal, and she didn't know how to make it any clearer to her father that Lily had left the house, as he repeatedly asked where Lily was.

She's my favorite character.

A lot of crazy ******* work in that bookstore

Her yelling out in Slovenian was hilarious.

Plus her violin playing last episode and her matter of fact reply "but it's beautiful" was priceless

I kind of wanted to wait to comment on this whole Late Show arc until it finished... and it was probably the best few episodes the show has ever done.

Louis CK deserves all sorts of praise and recognition for what he was able to do. We all knew he could be funny, we've seen great dramatic moments, but he's come so far as an actor. When David Lynch made him be funny right there in the office and we saw how much Louis wanted to do it but just couldn't seem to get past himself. Then he pulled out that bizarre dance

Priceless. It's amazing how Louis CK can give us a great and inspiring underdog story (with plenty of awesome Rocky moments), yet he can throw in that stupid dance right in the middle.

The highs and lows of this last episode were great. Right off the bat the daughters' disappointment when Louis said he would only be able to see them on the weekends. Then they came by with the picture showing their support.

Lynch telling him the rules of show business, then right away Seinfeld (as a villain) comes in and lies to Louis to get into his head. And surprisingly, Louis was great in his test show. I loved him admitting to Susan Surandon that he masturbated to her

And the gut punch that they just used Louis (and Seinfeld too) to get Letterman to lower his price and re-up. But that was ok... Louis showed that he could do it and pushed himself more than he has in his entire life.. and sometimes that's enough of a victory.

I'm glad this thread got bumped, couldn't find it when I searched for it. These "Late Show" 3-part episodes were just great, especially part 3, proving to himself he could succeed being the host for the Late Show if he put in the effort, even though they were just using him. Just the satisfaction of knowing that he was able to put on a great test show was enough for him. Him not getting the job was probably the best thing for him, because not only would he see his daughters like he normally did, but he also didn't fail, it was a win/win for him.

I find it really hard to recommend this show to people because it's so hard to describe. There's funny parts but I wouldn't describe the show as a comedy (especially by season 3). Some parts get kinda wacky but it is really one of the more honest and creative shows out there. It was nice to see Louie succeed (even when failing) at the end of the Late Show arc. Love this show.

That Louie had a chance to host Late Show? As far as I know, no.. it's fictional.

CK has said the show is a few years behind his current state in life. So we've seen Louie be a successful comic but not that well-known on the show and I've seen the comparison to him going viral on Leno on Louie to his real life interview with Conan from 3 years ago   And around that time he's already done a few TV specials and he was just getting his new show and was really on the verge of blowing up.

So we could potentially see Louie next season become successful and get a shot at doing something like Louie. And maybe not become the huge star he is now, but use the carryover from his shot at Late Show to do something big in his career that brings him success.

^^ well I know it's about 3-5 years in the past.
so I'm wondering if he really has some kind of issue with Letterman.

Well for whatever reason, CK hasn't been on Letterman for about 15 years up until last year.

From an Esquire interview
LCK: That's the highest-rated of all the late-night shows. Plus, Jay puts me on whenever I want. I really like Jay, and he's always invited me to come on. They don't have me on Letterman anymore.

SR: Why?

LCK: I don't know. I haven't been on Letterman in 15 years. I loved doing that show. Dave's my favorite. Dave's who I watch — I wrote for him. And I did the show five times or so, and I've been told that I'm not okay there anymore.

SR: There has to be a reason.

LCK: No one would tell me.

Louis has always been a supporter of Leno because (like he said) Leno always showed him love. I think CK would have said if there was a reason for Letterman "banning" him... so it might be a case of Louie using the real life "ban" and adding a fictional angle to it that Letterman would be angry for Louie trying to take his job.

Jesus, man. That season finale was great. And kind of really sad for 80% of it

Finally caught the last episode of the Late Show story. ******g perfect. This really is the best show not on AMC or HBO.

I imagine if I was a single father, that Christmas presents opening would have hit very close to home. That was hysterical. "Santa got me a blue monkey", cuts to Louie yelling at the store clerk for a blue monkey

and the scene with the doll kept getting more and more crazy, I loved it.

In typical Louie fashion, I had no idea Liz's death was coming the way it did. Pretty tragic, but at least she and Louie got to say bye.

I would have never guessed Louie would end the season with a meal on New Year's with a group of Chinese people in Beijing. Yet, in typing that sentence i"m not surprised at all that's how it ended. And to boot, they managed to make it a heartfelt ending.

And I need to re-watch the Late Show trilogy, because it's probably three of the better episodes of a comedy in a row I can remember

That damn doll scene had me in stitches.

Great finale. Gut wrenchingly depressing, hilarious and heart warming all in just 30 minutes.

This was one of the better episodes. My favorite still has to be 'Duckling' which was the one hour USO episode. What are yours?:nerd:

I'm obviously disappointed, but I'd rather delay a year and get CK's best work than he get burnt out and make subpar television.
Louie  isn't coming back until 2014
Never one to care much about buzz or your feelings, Louis C.K. will follow his Emmy win for Louie  by taking a long hiatus, keeping the show off the air until the spring of 2014. "I don't want it to be making the donuts," C.K. said  in a network conference call today. "I want it to be something that comes from somewhere important and stays funny. It's a luxury I asked for ... Season four is my job right now, but I'm going to take a whole lot of time to turn it in." FX president John Landgraf chimed in that, given how involved C.K. is in every aspect of the show, "I'm not surprised he needs a bit of a break." Though of course, that "break" includes an already-confirmed 22-city stand-up tour that will delay the writing of any new Louie  stories until sometime in early 2013, leaving hardly any time for laying around and eating ice cream.

Still, C.K. says any  time off will allow him to get back to a first-season mindset of feeling like the show could go anywhere, rather than relying on a stale formula of Louie meeting some crazy girl who then begins hemorrhaging out her eyeballs and then he ends up in Beijing—you know, that  old routine. Anyway, if in the interim you're looking for a dose of middle-age banality mixed with stoically received horrors and outrageous twists, there's always @FakeLouieEps

Caught up the past week or so.. I love this season. The episode with Louie dating the fat woman was brilliant. And I'm glad we've seen a bit more of Louie's ex.. and Jane has been the MVP of this season, she's awesome.

I'm loving the two episodes a week. I don't know how to completely describe it but it's much more satisfying to get 1 hour of Louie's occasionally weird and slower paced stuff than only getting one ep a week. Especially since you don't know what's coming from week to week.

A lot more continuity in this season. Can't wait to see the end of the Elevator arc/movie. Loving this season so far too.

Even when the show throws punches in slow motion, they still connect. :\

Elevator Pts. 1-6 was basically the best indie film I've seen this year.

"You're not even ******* her?" :smh: I need to watch the whole thing again. :smokin
