This right here.

I'm acutally surprised to see so many people think Nike will just cut off the line as soon as he stops playing. Doubt they'll branch off like Jordan Brand, but I think Nike's smart enough to keep the line going.

I know this is a bad example, but the Jordan line continued with XIX-XX3 after he retired. Yes, I know it's JORDAN. But I'm sure we can agree that possibly the XX's are the best outta that time period. Yet, they still produce yearly Jordans and sell out.

The Kobe line is popular because of the style, comfort, special colorways and relatively reasonable prices. From what I've gathered, they've all progressed and gotten better up until the VII's... (not sure why people have issues w/ them. *shrugs*) But even that's debatable.

It's crazy though... I remember when people used to hoop in (retro) Jordans heavy. Nowadays, people are so scared of the quality of Jordans, they're scarce. Plus, I'm sure the price of retros now is a reason why they prefer not to use them to ball in. It's crazy how many Kobes you see on people now during basketball leagues/pickup games (along with others from the basketball line.)

Nike would be crazy not to extend the line a few years or so after he retires. There's still money to be made with Kobe's name alone. EASILY. He'll still have a following after basketball. Maybe not as much as Jordan does, but enough to keep a signature shoe going.

Kobe's line hasn't achieved quite the casual appeal status of the Penny line. I'm not even sure how the Foamposites and hybrids caught fire for the Penny's.

If Nike were smart they'd start implementing some casual appeal features in the VIII and IX (if there are such things).

VII were a technical shoe and they tried tacking gimmicks onto it for the casual/collector crowd.

we the resent rise of popularity over the penny line, plus the re-introduction  of his new signature model nike will sure do the same, maybe not right away but as state by Robert green in the 48 laws of power respect it only increase by absent and nike sure memorize this law, they take something unappreciated transform it into cult classic and once the time is right expose it to the masses to generate it profit its pure marketing

I agree to a certain extent, but at the end of the day, Nike will do whatever Kobe wants to have in his shoes. It seems like he wants more performance based rather than casual-wear based kicks, but I could be way off on that...

Do people feel the Kobe line like that enough to continue after he retires I really don't think so. But you never know. I don't think Kobe has a strong following when it comes to his kicks but I could be wrong...

You're very wrong. Kobe IV,V, and VI were out selling Lebron's line during their release. Especially overseas.
People seem to forget that just because of what happened with the VII's.

I'm sure they will. Kobe has a HUGE following. No way they're gonna leave that money on the table.

lolzzzz...how about bg?(blake griffin?) they re kinda testing his line right now...hes from la too...just sayin
Isn't he about to sign with UA?

Highly doubt it. They have a few years left. Maybe a Kobe 10 or 11 if he keeps it up. But after he walks away from the game, i doubt they will continue the line just retro his shoes. I feel that retros for Kobe and Lebron when they retire are inevitable

I can see Russell Westbrook having a signature line after Kobe. I mean, they already have the same mindset and don't pass the ball. lol. Kidding.
But Westbrook can be a candidate. I just don't see Nike giving 2 signature shoes to 1 team though. Even though it would be pretty nice. I loved the Westbrook PE hyperfuses this year. The color of them is just amazing. If he got a signature shoe I can see some pretty nice colors on them. They would be mids to durants lows. Maybe.

But I also think they should just keep making the Kobe line up to a 24 like they did with Jordan's number. But they might not cause that is a long ways to go to get to 24. I'm picturing the Kobe 8 next season to be pretty iconic as well in tribute to his old number 8 jersey. Hopefully Nike does something cool with that just because. I'm just hoping its a better shoe than the Kobe 7. They really took a step backwards this year. The 7s are so uncomfortable compared to the 6s. And the design of the shoe wasn't that good either. Wishful thinking on the 8s.

The Kobe line is actually expanding up to this point.. so based on that fact I'd have to say YES, it will continue, certainly not to the extent of Jordan but it will still be around... at least I hope.

well Kobe is 33 today, so I guess we'll have to see in about 7 years from now

i doubt it. kobes are nice, dont get me wrong, but not nice enough to stand the test of time. the gimmicks of todays shoes just dont cut it.
