Greatest playoff runs: Nos. 1-5 (NBA)

This is such a stupid comment.

You don't win championships during the regular season, you win them in the playoffs... There has been 60+ win teams who were knocked out of the playoffs before the finals, so this overall season mumbo jumbo is idiotic.

Yeah it is so 'stupid' for me to consider the 72 win Bulls team to be the best team ever. So far fetched. As I said earlier, perspective. Some have it, obvious many don't in this thread

Really? Because as far as I'm concerned the Pistons let Shaq get his and shut everyone else down, you think a Jordan led Bulls team during the 96' team would lose?
People really showing their age.

Not the same team as the '01 Lakers and Ho. Grant got hurt in game 1, but here's how Shaq's ORL team fared in the 1996 ECF. http://www.basketball-ref...ayoffs/NBA_1996_ECF.html
i don't nesscarily agree with dennii5 to the extent that Shaq by himself (figuratively) would demolish a team with Jordan on it but 01 Shaq > 96 Shaq

I agree with you. I provided that link as food for thought.

I think that's a little far fetched.
Yep, Luc Longley > Dikembe Mutumbo

Yep excellent illustration why that Sixers team was beaten like the 96 Bulls would be, Iverson > Jordan, Eric Snow > Pippen, Aaron McKie > Rodman, Tyrone Hill > Kukoc, Jumaine Jones > Ron Harper

@ Shaq beating a team like '96 CHI by himself.

He's been swept/beaten in 5 in the past when putting up big numbers.

That Lakers team isn't good enough defensively to beat the '96 bulls.

Let's be cereal, Shaq would've absolutely demolished Longley and Wennington down low. Lakers get that one.

You can't bet against Jordan though. I think the Bulls take it in 7.

Shaq would dominate down low, that's a given. But Longley and Wennington weren't completely worthless, not Longley at least. He didn't have Sam Perkins type range but he could stretch the D by hitting free throw line extended jumpers. He'd take a dump on Greg Foster any day.

Shaq would most likely get his numbers, no doubt about that.  However, the rest of the Lakers team would be standing around in amazement as that '96 Bulls team went to work and handled business both on offense and more importantly defense.  Kobe would be asking Jordan for autographs during the game and would be writing down Jordan's moves on a piece of paper as he went about his plagiarising ways that we would see later on in his development, rendering Kobe to be ineffective.

You said alot right there champ, but they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so with that being said..................................

This picture accurately and perfectly describes the relationship of Shaq and Kobe while they played TOGETHER, which is what I was referring to, anything after that is...............just after that.

Could Shaq win without Kobe? Sure, he did it in Miami.

Could Kobe win without Shaq? Sure, he did it twice with Pau.
Bottom line is, they had to win with dominant players at the same position. Shaq won with DWade, who carried that Miami team on his back.
Kobe couldn't even sniff the finals again until they traded for Pau and they still lost the first year together.

They both needed each other to win. Period.

The idea that the Lakers would have run through the Bulls, that Shaq would have been that dominant, that the Lakers in 2001 could have even won THREE games is laughable.
