Oso's Journey - My Dog's Battle With Cancer

I know what you're saying, it's a dog. But this guy has been with my half my life. He recently became ill. He stopped being playful and just laid around all day. Eventually his abdomen became swollen. I took him to the vet today, and the X-rays showed lots of fluid in his abdomen and his intensities pushed to one side by something that couldn't be seen because of the fluid. After doing some more tests on him they told me he is bleeding internally from something and that's what his abdomen is filled with. He's thinking that behind the fluid might be a a cancerous tumor causing him to bleed. I love this dog like my brother and has been there with through a lot. If it was his time to go because of old age then I would have to accept that. But I know he still has so much life in him that it's not his time to go. He's going to have a ultrasound tomorrow to check exactly what he has. I hope I get good news because I've been pretty depressed all day.

All I ask is for some prayers. Please..

Thanks..

Update - So I just got back from the vet with my mom. The doctor came in and told us the cancer has spread throughout his whole abdomen so there's nothing really we can do but wait until he dies, or put him to sleep. My dog doesn't show much pain right now, he seems ok just always tired from the internal bleeding so we are going to take it day by day. On the way home I took him to a park and me him and mom just sat on a blanket and hung out. The pain my mom is going through makes it that much harder. I hope to god a miracle happens and he gets better, but I have to be realistic and start accepting the fact that he's going to be gone real soon. I love him to death and I don't want him to go..But there's not much I can do now..

Thank you NT for your prayers.

Update 2 - I just got off the phone with an oncologist and he's going to get examined to see if chemo or radiation treatment would help him. I've already spent over a grand, and the chemo/radiation is a few more but I can't let my dog go without a fight, even if it means me going broke.

Hope everything turns out well OP.
Never seen the hype behind a dog until me and my gf adopted one(Hank) a few months ago. Now I dread the day something happens to him. Keep your head up and I'm sure everything will work out.

Dogs are definitely not "just a dog". They're part of the family. Better than most humans IMO

Anyway, hope your dog gets through this ok.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your dog. I'm sure he does have a lot of life left in him, and I hope he gets to use it to the fullest.

Exactly. My dog is like a little brother to me. We play fight and watch TV together. Play hide-n-go seek -- and I'm 25 y/o. Ain't no human playing hide-n-go seek with me...

I know that feel bro.

I have 2 dogs and I treat them like they were siblings. I grew up with them. Father Time is unforgiving.

I know that feel OP and it sucks.

I don't remember the quote exactly but its something like: "Of all the animals in the world, only one has made a bond with man"

I definitely can relate. My dog has been having issues as well and I'm going to take him to the vet to get checked out soon. Prayers to be sent your way.
