defenses are going to do what the ravens did to the 9ers in the bowl. every time they run read option, go after the QB. yes, you'll give up some big plays here and there, but you get a free shot at the QB every time and that's valuable.

Harbaugh's playbook isn't based on read-option.

The Seahawks are only good at home, and with that being said they still didn't/couldn't win the division.  They choked under the pressure.  All this talk about blow out scores is irrelevant, that's only good for college football as you move up in the rankings based upon how much you beat the other team by.  It doesn't work that way in the NFL.

I really like Kaepernick but I think he slumps hard this year. Everybody has film on him now and I think he's the type that'll be easy to find his tendencies. He's been getting a ton of publicity over the past few months, hopefully it doesn't get to his head.

I posted this in another thread but it applies to your post.....

What exactly do people think defenses are going to figure out about Kap now that there is film on him? He ran on designed rushes less than 3% of the time. When defenses stayed out on the edge, Gore, Hunter and James ran wild off tackle. When they pressed inside, he ran around them for first downs or long TD's. Are safeties going to "figure out" how to get to the receiver faster when Kaepernick throws one of his fastballs on a line 40 yards? Are linebackers going to figure out how to get faster so Kaepernick can't eat up 20 to 25 yards down field when they run past him trying to blitz? Is the pressure going to get to him? He's already experienced three playoff games. Are defenses going to load up the box and stop the run to make him pass? Yes, please do that. Are they going to play nickle and dime on him all the time to try to take away the pass? Yes, Greg Roman with his never-ending thick book of running plays wants them to do that.

I am not saying Kap is incapable of having a bad year.  I am just saying that teams having film on him wont be the reason it happens.

Dland...In every post you have defending Kaep, it sounds like you think he can do no wrong. I just want to know YOUR opinion on whether or not you think he will continue to light the league on fire or if you feel he could succumb to some sort of slump along the way.

I understand you wanting to know what others feel is evidence as to why he may struggle, but I'm more interested in your specific outlook on him going forward. Mainly...I know you know he's not Superman. Where do you see him struggling or what areas you think he needs to work on? I'm interested to hear.

Its not that he can do no wrong.  I never said that, nor meant to insinuate it.  I just think his skillset is something that we have rarely seen in a QB before.  Aside from RGIII, I cant remember a QB having as much success in his first 10 games as a starter as Kap has.  I really do think the sky is the limit for him.

Honestly, like I have said before, I know Kap can improve in certain areas.  Although he has demonstrated he can put touch on the ball at times, he needs to know when to throw a laser and when to put more loft on the ball.  A play early in the Seahawk game comes to mind when he floated a ball to Vernon Davis which allowed a defender to break on his ball and light Vernon up. 

Also, at times he tries to do too much.  The interception against the Saints and the pick on first drive of the Packer playoff game come to mind.  But thats what happens when your QB is a playmaker.  You have to understand that things like that will happen.  I love that Kap makes plays when things dont go according to script.  Thats something Alex Smith never did.  He would rather take a sack than try to make a play if things broke down.  I just hope Kap finds a happy medium, and that he learns when to create something out of nothing, and when it is ok to just throw the ball away.  

He also needs to do a better job breaking the huddle faster as we are a team that does a lot of shifting.  This often leads to delay of games or unnecessary timeouts.  I also love that he attacks downfield, as evidence by him having the highest % of passes traveling over 15 yards in the entire league.  But this often times comes at the expense of a checkdown or a short route that will get him 5 yards.  Being able to incorporate the shorter routes will open the field up more.  Again, this is the exact opposite of Alex Smith.  Alex would never look for a longer route if a 3 yard route is open. Kap needs to find that happy medium.

But like I said, its not that Kap is immune to having a bad season.  I just think the whole "theres tape on him now, so he will slump" is a stupid argument.  I know you are interested in my take on Kap more than others, but I cant count the number of posts that say Kap will have a down year or that he has the most to prove as a player....or things like that.  People make these claims, but never give any reasoning as to why they feel that way.  Kap isnt perfect. He definitely can work on things and gain more experience.  But after 10 games, you can count on one hand how many QBs have looked as good as he has.  We'll see what the future holds.
 
Ben had enormous success in his first season as well, somewhat similar situation as Kap also. 2004, what could've been

Thanks, Dland. Well put.

I actually forgot about how slow Kap was at breaking the huddles last year. My boy is a Niners fan and was ecstatic about Kap saying he's hitting the weights so early after the season and I said something about needing to hit the books and not the weights to get out of that huddle faster.
