Former NFL tight end and broadcaster Todd Christensen died Wednesday morning in Salt Lake City due to complications from surgery, according to BYU, Christensen's alma mater.

He was 57.

Christensen had fought liver disease and other illnesses in recent years, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

Christensen played in the NFL for 11 seasons after being picked by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 1978 draft.

He won two Super Bowl rings with the Raiders became a star for the team once it moved to Los Angeles in 1982.

Christensen was a five-time Pro Bowler and a first-team all-pro twice.

He set a single-season record for tight ends with 92 receptions in 1983, and broke it three years later with 95 catches. He finished his career with 461 receptions for 5,872 yards with 41 TDs.

Following his football career Christensen became a broadcaster, co-hosting the second half of the first season of American Gladiators with Mike Adamle. He later joined the NFL on NBC as a color commentator from 1990 to 1994, teaming up with Charlie Jones for the first 4 years

Damn, RIP.

He's been waaaaay worse than average.

Can't cover, can't tackle, has been a negative locker room presence.

Obviously a hall of famer, but he's got nothing left.

Bellichick and Rex are interested. Jets GM probably won't allow it though

whoever signs him will have to pick up the Texans contract worth $1.7 mill this year . hes not worth that

I wish they'd signed him along with Nnamdi in the offseason, instead of drafting Reid.

Man what? Reid is a player and he's young.

Nnamdi is now a bum and Reed is also past his prime though his knowledge is invaluable.

Reid and Vaccaro have both been studs. I don't get the complaint.

Any team gambling on Reed is for intangibles and leadership. Not on the field product.

You guys will make it to the super bowl................and then get slaughtered by the broncos

I ain't scared of no Peyton Manning in NY in February.

I'm not counting my chickens though, anything can happen in the playoffs #reversejinx

Seattle is not only winning this year but the next 5 seasons.

Beast Mode is Secretariat reincarnated. Russy is Fran Tarkenton. Tate, Baldwin, and Percy are better than DT, Decker, Welker on a good day.
