The crown-of-the-helmet rule has also passed by a wide margin, I'm told.
:smh:

I hate you roger

ya! I'd way rather see more players laid out with head/neck injuries!

We should start coaching kids to lower their heads too, because nothing bad could ever come of that!

w/o google name the last guy laid out from a RB lowering his head...

Ryan Clark. I've definitely seen other defensive players laid out from injuries on those type of plays. If it can hurt offensive players when defenders do it, why would it be different when the coin is turned? Its just not highlighted because its not a penalty, and guys don't get fined/suspended for it.

Plus players are taught not to lead with the crown of their helmet because it can cause serious neck injuries.

Would you coach your child to do that?

Yall are mad because they are trying to make the game safer. I guess I get that

but 30 years down the line, alot of these players will be happy that they still have use of their legs, and are eating solid food.

The NFLPA has several pending lawsuits (Mike Ditka is a huge advocate) by former players who are living completely horrible quality's of life's due to head injuries sustained in the NFL.

What Roger Goodell is doing is trying to prevent that in the future.

Soon Football will become unwatchable. I agree that this will do nothing to stop head injuries or lawsuits.

So many hard runners just lost fantasy stock with me.

It passed 29-1 BTW Washington and the Pats didnt vote.

Lets be real. This is not going to stop head injuries and lawsuits

maybe not, but is Goodell not supposed to try?

He's just supposed to say "**** it, casual fans like seeing big collisions, so I'll just leave things as they are"?

Trying to protect the players is the one legit and noble thing that Goodell is doing.

Im not upset that they are trying to make the game safer. It's going to be annoying when players will be penalized for clean hits (just like a defensive players have to deal with).

You're going to have refs calling bang bang plays when a ball carrier lowers his shoulder pad on a big play and gets flagged for it.

I dont have faith in these refs to call it correctly (especially since it's not reviewable). If it looks like a violent/head shot (when it wasnt) they will call it anyways.

RB's don't launch themselves at DB's, this hit

and this hit are two different things

Mind you the richardson hit is what goodell wants gone from the nfl but no one was hurt on that play

And this is why I think you guys are ridiculous

Because this is what you're concerned about as opposed to the safety of those actual players

And how do you know it won't prevent injuries or lawsuits, you see the future or something? The very least the NFL can do is TRY

(antidope, you still my dude)

so because nobody was down on the field, nobody was hurt? A concussion doesn't have to be something that lays you out, the effects may not present themselves until some time later.

Brian Westbrook is a perfect example of a young man who is suffering greatly from head injuries suffered during the game.

explain why the rule is not reviewable then? you wanna protect the players but not the integrity of the game they play?

because then you would be complaining about slowing the game down with reviews.

I don't even know what that means.

alot of you guys need to look up the symptoms of a concussion if you dont think that guys can walk off the field after the play, and still have a concussion.

But I guarantee that guys dont want to mortgage their future

nah, roger is trying to cover himself from future lawsuits, instead of admitting fault in the past regarding fully disclosing the dangers of head injuries to former players and therefore not paying them settlements and not taking care of them.

dude wasn't commissioner when those players played (except Westbrook, and a couple others). so he can only address the issue as it comes in relation to him. Either way, doing something is better than nothing.

That part wasnt 100% serious, just trying to make light of a bad situation. It may have been in bad taste and if so I apologize. I'm all for them trying to make the game safer, but I would like to see them do that while not compromising how the game is played. This rule does exactly that, its telling people how they have to play or else and removing what used to be a legitimate football move. Its like when the NBA removed handchecking except its worse because the effect that it will have on how the game is played will still be worse.

The reason I dont think it will do much to curb the injuires and lawsuits is because its something that really cant be truly avoided unless the contact is removed all together. Running backs will still be getting hit one way or the other.

You cant be serious,, the new rule is a judgement call and its exempt from reviews, its a 15 yard penalty based on a refs OPINION and a PLAYERS REP
