@AdamSchefter: Cowboys and Tony Romo reached an agreement on blockbuster 6-year extension that makes him highest paid player in team history, per sources.

Yes!!! 6 more years of irrelevance

Cowboys fans rejoice though Jeter might play soon and the Lakers are looking a little better

$55 million guaranteed for Romo?!

400

As much as the extension is kind of ridiculous, I am in the minority by saying I dont believe Romo is the problem.

How does a QB with 1 playoff win deserve that contract??? Well at least I know the My skins got 2 wins for the next 4 years

I hope he doesn't settle after getting that contract there's so much the boys gotta especially with that secondary and running gm

The cowboys have a lot of issues but I don't think Tony Romo is one of them, although he could cut down the picks

Jerry Jones is the biggest problem on that team. Romo just provides the lulz at the best possible times.

Theres plenty of problems with the Cowboys. Romo is definitely one of 'em though.

They're basically stuck with dude. He chokes a lot but he's their best option unless they're gonna start from scratch and Jerry is not getting any younger so he has to believe in Romo.

I'm actually shocked at all the intelligent responses here  . Romo indeed isn't the problem.

One thing many people are forgetting: By not extending Romo, we would take a 16million cap hit this year alone, preventing us from not only signing FA's but possible draft picks. Also, Romo had a clause in his original contract which negated our ability to franchise him.

In other words, ROMO HELD ALL THE CARDS.

But as someone else mentioned, Jerry is the problem in all of this. But this had to get done if the Cowboys were going to sign anyone this season.

I think its a bad deal by the Cowboys.

Do you really see Romo leading them to multiple Super Bowls for the next 6 years? Thats the only way this contract would be worth it then. Youre paying that for at his best the 10th best quarterback in the NFL and most of the time, hes average.

I love it.

At least McNabb got to a Super Bowl and 3 straight NFC Championship games, 7 playoff apperances with a 9-7 record.

Romo has started 7 years....3 playoff appearances....1-3 record in the playoffs

True. Cannot ignore that, but it was the Phildelphia Eagles that collectively achieved those marks and not just Donovan McNabb. Those Eagles teams were all-around much better than any of the teams that Romo has been a part of, except for possibly one...If that.
