Is Bryant McKinnie moving closer to a contract with the San Diego Chargers?

The veteran left tackle told NFL.com's Albert Breer via text that he's taking a physical with the Chargers on Wednesday.

McKinnie visited with the Chargers on Tuesday night, a day after he met with the Miami Dolphins. The Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday the Chargers characterized their meeting with McKenzie as a "good visit," though no contract talks had begun.

That might change if McKinnie's physical checks out without any issues. The Chargers have a glaring hole on quarterback Philip Rivers' blindside after their failed investment in Jared Gaither last season. King Dunlap and Mike Harris are the only in-house options at the moment.

Of course, McKinnie doesn't come without some risk. He's battled weight issues in the past, and he's entering his age-34 season. He proved he still can play at a high level during the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl run, but motivation always will be a concern.

Chargers need this signing.
