The Cubs and Lakers are only two of the most historically significant franchises in their respective laeguesLeast those of us that picked our teams from "birth" don't ever sweat that stuff. I can move, my teams can move, they can do whatever, I'm still followin the same teams no matter what, no questions asked.
like they have any chance of moving 
but agreed on the 'being able to pick whatever team you want'...... it just so happens that the team that most people who choose to be a fan of end up being an out of town team, and by proxy picking some of the most storied/successful/popular franchises around, giving that fanbase a bandwagon/frontrunning stigma. I know in asking you guys about it in the Lakers thread, you guys just accept it for what it is

QI apologize for not being simple minded enough to be brainwashed into liking only one cities sports teams for MY entire life. I had no idea I had to sign up for the Lakers and Dodgers, and Rams or Raiders and Kings and USC when I picked my first squad.
What do you all do when you move?
Get your own damn minds and go about your business.
The **** the Dodgers got to do with my Lakers? Cuz they share a city? So? Why would I give a **** about that? What I do when the Raiders and Rams move? Who I follow then?
All you Seattle folk root for the Thunder these days? They ain't in your city no more. You all movin out to OKC with them? No right. So then what? Switch teams to Portland, or Denver?
What if you live in a city with one team, you pick teams 300 miles away and call them "local" like these douche bags here in Portland that rep the Seahawks?
You hit 8 years old. You pick a squad in each sport you like and follow. Live the rest of your days following those same teams. Then you die.

I talked with a guy from NY who's a Lakers fan. He said he couldn't understand how you would root for a team that wasn't winning.
