I don't see this on any of the sports news websites so I'm hoping the league is just floating this out there to see people's reactions
Officials warn players: Spinning the ball can result in a penalty
It’s become commonplace in the NFL for players who make a big play to spin the ball on the ground in celebration. But this year, players are being warned that there’s a fine line between celebrating and taunting — and if they cross that line, it’s a 15-yard penalty.

Reports today from members of the media at Vikings camp  and Panthers camp  indicate that referees working training camps are warning players that they’ll be penalized if they taunt opponents by spinning the ball.

This is not a new rule: The 2012 official playing ruleslisted examples of prohibited acts that will result in unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, saying, “These acts include but are not limited to: sack dances; home run swing; incredible hulk; spiking the ball; throwing or shoving the ball; pointing; pointing the ball; verbal taunting; military salute; standing over an opponent (prolonged and with provocation; or dancing.”

But the fact that officials at two different training camps made a specific point of mentioning spinning the ball suggests that officials will be stricter about enforcing that rule this year than they were last year.

One player, Panthers receiver Steve Smith, even said he’s working on ways to continue his ball-spinning celebrations while staying within the rules. Smith, and every other NFL player, would be wise to err on the side of caution. Players may enjoy spinning the ball to celebrate, but no celebration is worth 15 yards.
It'll be interesting to see how this is enforced...considering it was a rule last year and none of those celebrations on the list were flagged

or if the focus is really just on spinning the ball like the article states, which is dumb in itself to me

Sounds like everything is illegal,,,,except the good ol' Lambeau Leap

Kaepernick got flagged against GB for spinning the ball. Dumb, but I can understand it.

Sack dances though? I don't get the flags for celebrating sack dances. Like, when do DL and LB ever scored TDs to celebrate? Not often. So stupid to penalize them for celebrating what they can get.

that has to be a joke right? spinning the football, pointing? what is going on?

Article 1 There shall be no unsportsmanlike conduct. This applies to any act which is contrary to the
generally understood principles of sportsmanship. Such acts specifically include, among others:
(a) Throwing a punch, or a forearm, or kicking at an opponent even though no contact is made.
(b) The use of abusive, threatening, or insulting language or gestures to opponents, teammates, officials,
or representatives of the League.

Note 3: Violations of (b) will be penalized if any of the acts are committed directly at an opponent. These acts
include but are not limited to: sack dances; home run swing; incredible hulk; spiking the ball; spinning the
ball; throwing or shoving the ball; pointing; pointing the ball; verbal taunting; military salute; standing over
an opponent (prolonged and with provocation); or dancing.

This is the rule as it stands. Celebrations are ok as long as its not towards or in the physical direction of the opposing team...

Is there any news article or commentary stating that the NFL has plans to abolish or penalize players for these actions? I'm still confused as to why they're out for players that spin the ball...

Just curious because I havent found anything that states so... If I'm wrong I do apologize in advance

^ hope you're right. will be interesting to see...like what if you do it to a teammate but there's an opponent behind him, or next to him? going to be interesting seeing this implemented

Goodell is gettin on my last ****** nerve with this ****.

First he messes with my Draft weekend, then he MOVES my Draft weekend, now he wants God damn robots out there. :smh:

**** you Roger, you and Stern both need a car ride Thelma and Louise style.

So just today

Saints  WR Joe Morgan tears ACL out for the year,

Saints DL kenyon Coleman chest injury out for the year

Bears CB Kelvin Hayden tears hamstring out for the year

These Players are getting pushed too hard in this time frame.

That has to be he only logical thing?
I don't think so... They used to run two-a-day practices until the CBA changed that.

even with those...the intensity levels built up more gradually. they're hitting high intensity much more quickly now. i would sort of agree that the shortened time frame hurts more. trying to do way more in less time is putting more stress on these guys.

Steelers have been more physic than any team and they have been as injury free as anyone.....(shrugs)
