Vikings Pro Bowl fullback Jerome Felton likely to miss rest of preseason after surgery
Posted by: Dan Wiederer Updated: August 14, 2013 - 7:38 PM

Vikings Pro Bowler Jerome Felton will likely miss the rest of the preseason after undergoing an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday afternoon, according to multiple NFL sources.
The veteran fullback attended the team's morning walk-through on the final full day of training camp but was then absent from the afternoon practice. It turns out, a source said, that Felton was rushed back to the Twin Cities for surgery to remove his appendix.

That operation was a success and the timeline for Felton's recovery should be somewhere in the ballpark of two weeks. But it's almost certain the team will keep Felton out of game action until the regular season opens Sept. 8 in Detroit.

The Vikings will play their second preseason game Friday night in Buffalo against the Bills and follow nine days later with an NBC-televised "Football Night in America" contest at San Francisco. The preseason finale will be Aug. 29 at Mall of America Field against Tennessee. But significant starters, even if fully healthy, aren't expected to play in that contest.

Felton enjoyed a major breakthrough in his first season with the Vikings last season, using his toughness and tenacity as Adrian Peterson's lead blocker to earn a Pro Bowl invitation. Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards on his way to MVP honors and has said that Felton's efforts blocking in front of him may have been "worth 600-700 yards over the course of the season. Maybe more than that."

As long as he gets back I guess. Weird. Hopefully everything went smoothly.

Wow, would've have thought the Raiders would be last either. Jags on the other hand, 31 sounds about right

Ditto. Brady should only get hurt while playing and Bernard Pollard is in the near vicinity of him.

Still, how you let that happen Solder  ? Dude was on his back with his legs in the air like a dead roach

Adrian Clayborn :pimp:

Brady better not miss any time though. My fantasy season would be ****** before it even started.

Its crazy how 1 mans injury could change the fabric of the NFL

Elaborate.

MRI negative on Tom's knee.

Apparently It was during a joint practice :nerd:

Bucs :smh:

There is video of it. One of his offensive lineman rolls him up. Nothing dirty.

not calling it dirty. but both teams' defensive lines were told not to rush directly at the QB (both brady and freeman...and backups). no idea if adrian clayborn was bull-rushing directly at 12 or not. either way...can't blame the bucs or clayborn for it. it's football. this stuff happens.

 c'mon bro...i don't think there was malicious intent. if anything, clayborn might have got caught up in a competitive battle with solder. these guys don't get to where they are without being competitive as ****. you have to hope that's all that it was.

I'm not saying it was a direct hit out on Brady...more so him pushing his players to go beyond the drill

Does that include the cardiovascular endurance situation with the game the Skins had in Detroit??
Absolutely.

I'm sure you heard the reports of the Shanahan's wanting McNabb to wear a wristband w/ the plays and he said no.

I hear ya, but I'm just not buying the lack of "cardiovascular endurance" part of what Shanahan was saying about McNabb.  I think McNabb would have been able to run a 2 minute drill and been able to get up the field in that last drive of that game.  I can go with everything else that was said about McNabb though as he had nothing left in the tank and processed to throw just about every ball in the dirt or at people's feet during the season.

not really getting in this debate.. just adding something for the conversation..

check the '04 super bowl vs the pats.. when the eagles had a 4 min "2 min drive" or whatever the time was on the drive that ended up with a TD to greg lewis.. where guys have come out about how he was blowing chunks in the huddle

Fair point, and thanks for mentioning it.

Also, I'll be at the Raiders vs. Saints game tomorrow night.  Looking forward to being in the Superdome.

The Cardinals are going to push both the Seahawks and the 49ers.

I think all three will be neck-and-neck until 6-8 games in, and then they'll falter and fall back but they're going to be better than people think. They lost some, but they shored up some other issues too. Losing some secondary guys, but the line will be drastically improved (Cooper, Levi return). And even if Carson is as fast as a statue, he's a clear upgrade even at this point in his career.

Levi Brown is the definition of a mediocre offensive lineman. If AZ is depending in guys like him then Palmer is gonna get hit a lot, like every other AZ QB over the years..

I think you're forgetting how nice the Rams could be.

They were already tough last year, and now they added Austin, Cook, Long, and Bailey to that offense. Not to mention they removed the old legs of Steven Jackson.

The way you see the Cards is how I see the Rams, pushing the 9ers and Seahawks for a couple months before falling a bit short.
