Bottom line, Browns control the Draft Board in 2014.

Last year almost no deals were made that involved picks for this draft, the Browns just happened to be a team that added 2 of them. It was mentioned multiple times during the draft, teams don't want to give up 2014 picks. (Heck, Skins traded theirs a year ahead, otherwise there was like 4-5 trades tops that included 2014 picks, and the Browns landed two of those.

Now they have 3.

The trade is solid for both teams. I get why the Colts did it, I get why the Browns did it.

And as stated above, the Bengals pissed on the draft for decades, until suddenly, they didn't. That's what the Browns are gambling right now, even if they screw up, they have to get at least SOME talent with all these picks. Even accidentally they should get some good talent. They could throw darts and make those their picks, it's a good draft to have control of, and they do. They'll be makin a pick every 18-20 picks or so, that's absurd, and in a deep draft. :smh:

I read that after the trade, Colts should have 67 players under contract in 2014 and will be ~$30-32 million under the cap. That's a good position to be in. :smokin

Coltsfan: I love the Colts but saying you dont see the Colts losing to the Niners is crazy.

I'm scared man. lol

i think the goal of your game this weekend should be just to escape with andrew luck in one piece. no disrespect...but your offensive line and their defense is just :x

Luck, T-Rich, Bradshaw, Wayne, T.Y., Fleener,....sheesh. That squad could do some big things if the defense and offensive line can atleast be average.

so they question the offensive line too, but when i did it everyone makes a big deal because i'm a texan fan? yall really think i'm that biased?

Wow. Son said the Colts are winning 5-6 games this year.

he's delusional. let it go.

in MMGs eyes, the colts have a million flaws, as if we didn't just scrape by 2 weeks in a row against perceived "inferior" teams.

People put so much value into a draft pick...

For every Andrew Luck... there's a Matt Leinart/Ryan Leaf.
For every Adrian Peterson.... there's a Joseph Addai/Darren McFadden.
For every Julio Jones... there's a Rashaun Woods/Charles Rogers.

But every year, we do the same thing. Let's see what the Browns do on draft day, and what Trent does on a team that wins games, before jumping to conclusions and awarding 'WINNER OF TRADE' trophies.

why can't you post more good stuff like this instead of stupid gifs left and right?

basically, you can't evaluate a trade involving picks until a player gets drafted and has production to compare against. anything until then is just talking just to talk

Browns are doing the right thing by trying to clean up the mistakes of the previous regime...however there is a crazy amount of pressure on the FO to make sure that these next 2 1st round picks can be franchise stalwarts for 8+ seasons.

I really wonder what the reception is going to be at the next home game.

agreed. it's a lot of pressure but i like that they aren't half-assing a rebuild. if you're going to do it, do it right, and do it with the players you want.

sidenote: i've always wondered why teams on the edge between being a playoff team and a championship contender aren't more willing to trade draft picks for proven commodities. the draft is a huge crapshoot anyways

You know? I've never understood it, either. If I were Denver, I'd be blowing up their phone for Joe Thomas right now.

Your right but houston top to bottom is better than the colts

Better RBs
Better WRs
Better TE
Better Oline

Better Defense from top to bottom.

But your right. The colts are winning the division

I think we have pretty strong chances on winning the division IMO but only time will tell...

My jaw dropped when I heard the initial trade. But after the dust settled, I do get when the Browns are coming from. They've got different personnel running things and that should at least give the fans a little bit of hope that they will hopefully get things right. But like I said, it's a ton of pressure. Not sure if that team/city/fanbase can weather another botched draft. IMO, take a QB w/ the first pick and go best available with the 2nd first rounder. They have a lot of holes to plug...but getting a franchise-QB is an absolute must.

I don't think it's that crazy to see the Colts winning 6 games this year.  Their defense is no good, their O-line is no good.  They were very statistically lucky last year.  Yes, they play in a crappy division but even so...

Next 5 games are 49ers (loss), Jags (win), Seahawks (loss), Chargers (tossup), Broncos (loss.) (Probable results, not guaranteed of course.  Yes they could beat us on the road- no jinx).   They could easily be 2-5 at the bye week.  Barely beat Oakland and got beat up pretty good by Miami.  I don't think they're that great.

Also wouldn't be surprised if Arians>>>>>Pagano.

If Browns hit on their picks it works. Really that simple. I like the move for Indy as well. 8 wins can probably grab a WC spot this year in the AFC
Doubt that. It's weak at the top, but there are still teams that I like to get around 9 wins. Chiefs, Dolphins, Colts, or Ravens will get to 9. I know the Steelers suck, but come on

. None of these squads are as bad as those NFC West teams that used to sneak in at 8-8.

Chester,

You're right about draft picks, but eventually a team gets it right. Look at the Lions...how many of those 1st round whiffs did they have until they finally got Safford/Megatron paired together. This could be the Browns year to finally "get right."
stafford is an above average QB and better than anything the lions have had in recent memory..

but only reggie ball has demonstrated himself incapable of getting the ball to mr. johnson

Thing is, Detroit has hit on their early picks, Stafford, Calvin, Suh, Fairley, but they seem to miss in the rest of the rounds, part of why they can't fill that roster out all the way down.

If they could do a little better in the mid rounds, that team would be pretty strong. (Delmas and Pettigrew haven't been what I expected either tho)

yup.. all of this

richardson is a solid RB, but he is not a game breaking one..

the browns can now go after a YOUNG qb of the future with their pick (bridgewater) and get a another WR to pair with gordon and cameron (evans?)

The one minor detail with the Browns that makes me question whether or not their tanking is the decision to start Hoyer. Why? Campbell was the backup in Cleveland and probably gives them the best chance to win. So, why now do they go with Hoyer unless they want to better their chances of losing?

Alright, they hit on....

Jahvid Best
Suh
Fairley
Ansah (early, but the kid can ball)
Delmas

Regarding the Colts...

They may by a sub .500 team in the end, but why not try and improve right now while they can in the 2nd week of the season? The AFC is down, no question. May as well make a push even though their team isn't a completed project. This also isn't a move just for this year. The core of this offense is just about set for the next 5 years now. Find a few lineman and maybe another WR and they're good on that side.

this.

luck, allen, fleener, hilton, ballard brazill and now richardson. all those dudes are locked up on rookie contracts :x

whether this move pushes them forward this year or not, they've solidified their skill positions. with money to spend in FA, then can spend on their other weaknesses and draft to fill holes as needed.

it's amazing what you can do as a franchise when you make good picks that can become productive players.

i think they hit on stafford... but i think stafford benefits MAJORLY from having johnson, which is pretty obvious..

but i dont think he is as good as some happen to believe.. or as good as the contract extension he just got should indicate (but this goes for couple other contracts handed out recently)

also, best was a major risk in the 1st with the concussion issues he had at cal

They are in full-tank mode. No point in starting a QB who will make them reasonably competitive. IF the colts finish w/ 6 wins, that would be 2 first round picks (maybe the #1 overall) in the top 10.

i think it's pretty obvious they dont give a crap about this season..

i wonder what's stoppping the broncos from backing up the brinks truck and making a godfather offer for joe thomas

The next games are;

49ers
Jags
Seahawks
Chargers
Broncos
Texans
Rams
Titans
Cardinals
Titans
Bengals
Texans
Chiefs
Jags

You telling me you cant see them losing 9ers. Seahawks, chargers, broncos, splitting with the texans / titans and bengals and chiefs.

Thats 8 losses? That's not out of the realm?

There's a huge difference between a 5-11 team and an 8-8 team. I had the colts going between 7 and 10 wins this season.

I can never get on board with tanking.

would you rather have them completely suck for 1-2 years, or be stuck in mediocrity for 5-6 years?

i watched the texans hand out bad contract after bad contract just to remain at 8-8 7-9 9-7. then they started drafting better and we're a playoff team now.
