NFL Discussion Thread - Hall of Fame Game: August 3rd

What I got from last night was that the Bengals still aren't a team that can do any damage in the playoffs and hand in hand with that is Dalton's inability to remain a consistent and successful quarterback worthy of taking a team deep into the playoffs.

They had opportunities and they also gave Miami a lot of opportunities, but bottom line is that a game like that is expected to be won by any Super Bowl contending team.

I actually didn't watch the game. I would have expected the Bengals front to obliterate that weak Miami O-line.

In fairness, you guys are underestimating the Any Given Thursday affect here, we all know if you're an average or better squad from a talent standpoint you have a chance to pull the minor upset/compete on Thursday night games with so little time to prepare.

It's entirely too early to write off the Bengals as a real contender, as bad as they played on offense they still lost in OT on a safety to a solid team, this is the NFL... it happens.

Tom Brady has an NFL-high 76 off-target passes this season, 15 more than the next-closest QB (Eli Manning)

I can't see the Bengals (mainly Andy and Marvin) putting together 4 great games in a row to win a championship. If they get the bye, 3 may be possible

Whoa Tom

This dude Sanu dropped the pass that that was intercepted towards the end of regulation around the 10 yard line and also dropped a pass that would have put them in field goal range in overtime. :smh:

Former Cardinals defensive back Hamza Abdullah took to Twitter on Thursday to blast the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell for not doing enough to ensure players' well-being.

In dozens of profanity-laced tweets, Abdullah said on his verified account that the NFL treats players like slaves, that Goodell would sell his ''soul for a dollar,'' and that the league should pay for psychiatric evaluations for its players.

Abdullah also implied that he had suicidal thoughts, tweeting that ''Every time I go to sleep, I pray that Allah takes care of my family, just in case I don't wake up.'' In the next tweet, he adds, ''And quietly, I'm disappointed sometimes when I do wake up.''

Abdullah's brother, Husain Abdullah, is a defensive back for the Kansas City Chiefs. He was not in the locker room during Thursday's media availability, though he did attend practice.

The brothers, both practicing Muslims, walked away from football in the prime of their careers to spend last year making a pilgrimage to Mecca. The Fifth Pillar of Islam is The Hajj, the pilgrimage that all Muslims are supposed to make once in their lifetime.

Husain Abdullah said during training camp the brothers wanted to make sure they did the pilgrimage while they had the health and means to do so.

Husain was signed by the Chiefs this past offseason, and has been a key contributor on one of the NFL's best defenses. He even returned an interception for a touchdown against Oakland.

Hamza Abdullah is not currently on an NFL roster. He spent his first three-plus seasons with the Broncos, a short period with the Browns, and three seasons with the Cardinals.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in an email to The Associated Press, ''Our Player Engagement staff has reached out to him to see if we can be of assistance.''

Hamza Abdullah began his Twitter rant on Thursday morning by blasting what he called ''fake Muslims,'' and then turned the target of his messages to Goodell and the NFL.

He said that the NFL is ''lying to these people and denying the fact that football causes brain damage.'' Abdullah did acknowledge that ''every player understood the risks of playing football, and we did it, and would do it over again,'' but that players ''just thought/assumed we would be taken care of after we were done.''

Abdullah later referred to the NFL scouting combine as a ''slave trade'' where players are stripped of their ''manhood.'' He said that ''there's a reason 80 percent of former players either go broke or get divorced within five years of leaving the game.''

The vitriolic rant came two days after Goodell joined about 200 mothers of youth football players in Chicago for a clinic designed to show them how football can be played safely.

Goodell did not take questions from the AP during the clinic.

Abdullah's rant also came on the heels of a documentary entitled ''League of Denial'' that reported the NFL ignored medical reports for decades that linked played the game to concussions and long-term health problems such as depression and brain disease.

this week's spreads and my thoughts

1000

Bengals @ Dolphins -- once a week there's a bet on the board that looks too good to be true . based on how *** the fins have been and how great the Bengals have looked as of late , this seemed almost too good to be true . Vegas knows :nerd:
Panthers @ Falcons -- taking the Falcons . this line is a bit too inflated based on public perception and overreaction at the Falcons loss last week . other than the cardinals , all of the Falcons losses have been by a touchdown or less
Vikings @ Cowboys -- double digit dog ? Cowboys inconsistency ? im taking the Vikings
Saints @ Jets -- i have faith in Brees and Payton winning by more than two field goals . taking the Saints
Titans @ Rams -- games a coin flip for me . if a gun was held to my head id take the Titans
Chiefs @ Bills -- doesnt look like Thad is starting , so the Bills will have either bum *** Flynn or bummier *** Tuel under center . taking the Chiefs
Chargers @ ******** -- another game id stay away from , but picking the Chargers
Eagles @ Raiders -- without Vick , Chip Kelly's offense is proving ineffective . Raiders
Bucs @ Seahawks -- double digit dog ? taking the Bucs
Ravens @ Brownies -- coming off of a bye i have confidence the Ravens can beat Jason Campbell by a field goal or more
Steelers @ Patriots -- my Pats are getting healthier for the first time in a while (full participation at practice on Wed and Thurs) and the signing of Sopoaga will definitely help defensive woes . still -- the offense at times has been suspect , and they've only won by a TD or more in 3 of their wins . bias me takes the Pats , unbias me takes Steelers
Colts @ Texans -- the loss of reggie wayne may prove more devastating than people think , but with Schaub still out im taking the Colts here
Bears @ Packers -- double digit dog ? in conference ? taking the Bears

16.5 for Seattle though?
After such a lack luster offensive showin last Monday night... Harvin ain't comin back.

I mean...

16.5 though!?

If I was in Vegas id highly consider putting a Bill on the Bucs.

I know but I mean... glennon isn't as bad as freeman.

He's actually competent.
He can make throws.
VJax has been destroying secondaries.

I'm not saying they'll win... But 17 point loss seems kind of a stretch. Especially with Revis healthy playing man coverage as of last week.

Not sure how much golden Tate will do this week...

16.5 is a beast . on average taking the dog when the spread is double digits will make you money
