i think both actions were done with the intent to interfere..

the jets, sought to take advantage of the gunner being forced out bounds and into the sideline area

tomlin stood within that restricted area and then actually stepped onto the field

in my opinion, tomlin went beyond what the jets had done because he went into that restricted area and actually onto the field.. just like the jets stupidity, mike tomlin's actions could have very easily resulted in an injury (what if jacoby jones blew out his knee trying to avoid tomilin?)

we'll agree to disagree then . to me the Jets assistant purposely making contact with a player of the opposing team is much more offensive than Tomlin purposely altering a player's path and getting out of the way last second

I also think that a head coach deserves a stronger punishment than an assistant for the same action. Tomlin should be held to a higher standard.

If the Bears could get Wilson's mind right they would have the best receiving core in the NFL.

I've been on the lookout for him. He hasn't played a lot of snaps for us but everyone in the organization thinks he can be a player. I'd bet we get rid of Earl Bennett to give him some more opportunities in the off-season.

that didnt happen though , and by the time Jacoby passes Tomlin his entire body is out of bounds

So it's cool for coaches to try and fake out players now, as long as they jump out of the way at the last minute?

How do you know Jones didn't slightly slow down or decrease his acceleration instinctively to avoid hitting Tomlin

Right, 'what if'. You are dealing with all hypotheticals. Generally punishment is based off actual result and 100k is pretty stiff

what if jacoby blows out his knee as a result of having to react suddenly to what tomlin did?

i know those things didnt happen.. that's why i asked "what if"

my problem is that those things could have happened (luckily they didnt).. a head coach stepped onto the field of play during a play when an opposing play just happened to be running by him

considering the jets got 100k.. tomlin should have gotten 150-200 since he actually went onto the field to pull his crap

But the Jets incident had actual contact, was premeditated and done multiple times. Hard to say Tomlin should be fined more, especially when levied against him and NOT the team like NY

fine both

if tomlin actually made contact with jacoby then i would say it should have been more than 150-200.. and i cant speak to how premeditated tomlin's actions were.. but i do think he was trying be slick and get away with one

if the jets dude just stood still and didnt try to make contact with the gunner, then i wouldnt even see a problem with what they did because then they would just be standing on the sideline (albeit strategically).. which is where they are allowed to be

1. never said Tomlins actions are excusable . my argument is about what incident was worse , and IMO its the Jets
2. more hypotheticals . im going to deal with intent , and all signs point to Tomlin trying to alter Jones' path without creating contact . since no contact was made , i personally am not going to fine him or penalize him the same amount as someone whose intent was clearly to make contact and succeeded in doing so

@AdamSchefter: Bills announced they signed former Chiefs TE Tony Moeaki.

And I'm sorry, it's more embarrassing to me that Tomlin has to have the words "embarrassing" "inexcusable" "illegal" force fed into his mouth just so people back off with their pitch forks. I'm sure he was told by the Steelers PR team to pump out some tears if possible. I mean holy ****, he didn't commit a crime. He just did something dumb but my god he's not facing grand jury here. SPORTS CAN'T BE THIS SERIOUS. We are letting them be.
