I still think David might have been a good QB if the Texans didn't allow him to get gang banged game after game

this. david carr is considered a bust and i think its unfair. dude was asked to take a new franchise to the promise land with no o-line and average weapons on offense (takes off fresno state cape)

I agree 100% I watched a lot of early Texan's games because I was really interested in them as an expansion team

David had pretty much no time and then he had to throw to subpar receivers
 
Let's say you're an expansion franchise today with the #1 pick.

Do you pass on a franchise QB, knowing you won't be able to block for him?

I would have just sat him the 1st season; in 2002 it was common place for your 1st round QB pick not to start the first year

let him play the last few games and prepared for 2003

But maybe they should've just taken an LT. Would have sucked the next couple of years anyway.

Was Carr considered a really special talent, or more of a Bradford/Bridgewater consensus #1?

of course not. you draft him and surround him with talent and an o-line. carr was on his way out by the time the offense and defense was starting to mold into a contender.

he was no montana/marino/elway/manning/brady talent but he was projected to be a good qb. not elite but good.

now that i think about it some more, the should of still signed carr and a veteran. have the veteran start and have carr learn for a year or two. you are an expansion team. chances of them making the playoffs the first 2 years was minimal. meanwhile the team could of stocked on weapons and built an actual team before throwing carr out there instead of feeding him to the wolves. then again hindsight is 20/20.

He was more highly regarded than Bradford by a big amount; Bridgewater was considered a franchise stud last year at this time so I think it's hard to compare him to Carr coming out

Basically David was a 5 year starter that took a Fresno State team that wasn't anything special and put them on his back; he was basically considered a franchise QB and ready to start coming in but the Texans decided not to surround him with an 0-line or any talent on offense

Easy pass for me.

On a team going through a transition or a team starting from scratch, I believe a veteran leader is a must at the quarterback position. Holds the team together...A bridge, if you will.

You can severly damage a young Q's development/confidence if you just throw him to the wolves like that.
