What do you guys think of the special teams angle?

I would have easily given that edge to Denver prior to knowing that Percy is playing. Limited time on the field this season or not -- He can still have a huge impact in the return game. Haven't heard many mention Holliday though, which is strange. I can see him having a very good game.

Trindon's confidence is almost gone. Reason people don’t mention him is because he's struggling fielding kicks and punts all year

why would seattle not disguise coverage? did i miss the sarcasm or something? :nerd:

Nah from what I've heard from watching tv and interviews, I think they play straight up, they don't do anything exotic or blitz a ton but they're just reallllllly good at what they do and still bait qbs into poor decisions.

I like Seattle to win a close game though, then I heard that guy from that prediction site on the radio driving home and they ran tons of simulations with Seattle winning 55% of the time and I felt better about my bet with a guy at my job

Just read an article on PFF that hit on just this.

No Disguise Needed

This season the Seahawks have showed and played the same look pre- and post-snap on 87.7% of plays. They run with a single-high safety in a ‘middle of the field closed’ look 78% of the time, and that includes all of the situations that practically dictate they won’t run with just one high safety. In the open field you can practically guarantee you’ll be looking at one deep safety. When Peyton Manning lines up across from the Seahawks’ defense he knows exactly what he is going to see – a simple Cover-3 or Cover-1 look, with Earl Thomas sitting in the middle of the field.

He’ll be staring at something that looks like this:

1000

The Seahawks run more or less the same coverage most of the time simply because they can. They have better players in their secondary than most teams so they don’t have to overthink things. Earl Thomas is one of just a few safeties in the game with the range to make playing a single-high defense viable and have an impact while doing so. Richard Sherman is a lockdown corner on one side and, since coming into the lineup on the other side, Byron Maxwell has almost identically matched Sherman’s coverage numbers.

In the middle, Kam Chancellor gives them a physical, big-hitting presence of an additional linebacker and when they go to nickel or dime formations they have talented defensive backs to bring in.

They can afford to line up and have an offense know roughly what they’re looking at.

Obviously they can still play different coverages from the same shell. They can and will still play man or zone on the outside and underneath depending on the personnel and formation they face, and they’ll certainly try and disguise a few things to throw Manning off, but being able to eliminate much of a defensive playbook with a simple glance is big for an offense.

Article goes on after that a bit, but that right there was specifically what was being talked about. It definitely hits on the fact that this game will be a huge chess match as Peyton should know how to attack this defense with 2 weeks to prepare, but Seattle's secondary is extremely good at playing man and sticking to their own assignments.

Halftime adjustments will be interesting.

advantage to seattle. holliday might surprise though. big games always have the least expected person to come up big.

Holiday will get killed by Lockett if he forgets to wave that arm

I swear that this entire postseason, people seem to look straight past special teams. NT, fans, TV personalities. It used to be that one x-factor that everyone would talk about.

For punting, just taking a quick look at statistics on ESPN.com, Denver and Seattle were towars the middle-bottom in net punt yards, while Denver led all teams in that category during the playoffs. Punts inside the 20 is 28 to 23 in favor of Seattle. Doesn't tell you a whole lot just looking at those numbers though.

Just looked at team penalties because I knew it was an Achilles heel of Seattle and surprised not too many Denver backers had mentioned it, but Denver really isn't far behind in terms of penalties.

Denver only 3 less defensive PI's in total than Seattle and with a banged up secondary that might not be an advantage one way or the other.

Fraj and freddieblack are some if the best NFL posters on NT. I'm sorry we gotta beat them .

So much fan support in Seattle today! On my way from work it seemed like every other car had a little window 12th man flag waving. I couldn't believe it

I wish I could be back in Seattle just for the SB. Though if we lose that would be a LONG sad trip back :smh:

2 weeks ago I was feeling much more confident than I do now. However, I do feel my hawks are going to win a tight one.

Hawks 28-24

Can't wait.
