Not to get drug into this, but Elway was absolutely great, and an all timer, but he also never had to "carry" the whole team like Dan did.

Denver actually had several years with a top end defense. Sometimes in the top 3-5. When they would fall off into the 20's, those would be the "down" years for the Broncos. When they were in that top 5 range, those were the years they were great.

Dan's best defensive teams came when he was almost dead. By then it was too late.

John also had relatively decent run games, like Bobby Humphery to at least help him a little, again, Dan's run game was beyond pathetic until Jimmy got there, and even then it was just marginal, not great or anything.

Elway def had the greater team success, no question at all, but in terms of "doing more, with less" no way Elway had less than someone else in the AFC, no way.

Dan's best chances were early 90's, but Buffalo was on that 4 year SB run and blocked them every time. Those games? Miami couldn't run the ball, or stop the Bills offense. :smh:

People making excuses for Marino SB's

Eli Manning has two SB's with average teams

I didn't know being a preseason favorite mattered

I wouldn't say those teams were average. Both had an elite pass rush and one year his receiving core was LEGIT. And he still at least had Plax the other year.

They were nowhere near favorites which is one of the excuses being made for Marino

Marino is an all time great but no ring hurts

Marino threw for 5000 yards in his second year (1984), went 14-2, and made it to the Super Bowl. He just so happened to run into the San Francisco juggernaut. He's also the guy that dropped 38 on that 1985 Bears defense. I don't give a **** about rings, the man is still the prototype NFL QB. Give me Dan Marino over ANY QB on ANY TEAM and you'll instantly see improvement.

Ready for some heads to explode? My top 5:
1) Dan Marino
2) Kurt Warner
3) Steve Young
4) Joe Montana
5) John Elway

i knew you liked warner. no idea you had young in front of montana

Kurt threw, IMO, the most accurate passes I've ever seen. To come out of nowhere to being on one of the most impressive offenses of all time, to dropping 300+ in every Super Bowl (including on two different teams) he played in... love the dude.

Tom is *this* close to replacing Elway on my list. He probably will regardless of what happens this year.

Steve Young was just exciting to watch. Aaron Rodgers before Aaron Rodgers.

If you have Young over Montana you need to slap yourself. As a pure pocket pass, accuracy, intangibles, 'clutchness' and rings Joe blows everyone away. Closest thing to seeing Joe is Tom Brady. Tom Brady is is very Joe-esque. Not surprising seeing as Joe Montana was his hero growing up.

Young over Montana is insane. You can like Young more but saying he's better is absurd.

Kurt Warner? HAHAHAHAHA, come on son.

Joe Montana played on some of the greatest teams of all time. I'm sorry that I don't value Super Bowl rings as much as you guys, especially when you play on teams with numerous other Hall of Famers...

look at Joe's first 2 superbowl winning teams. Filled with rookies and a lot of unproven players people never heard of. There's this huge misconception that Joe had crazy stacked teams throughout all his superbowl wins. Joe already had 2 rings before players like Jerry and John were even drafted.

Brady could be 4 on my list but he'll never get into my top 3. He's been impressive but I think a lot of that is due to Billy Belichick. I think all of the QBs on my list win more than three rings with BB if you swap them with TB

So glad wisenhunt is gone. peace out!

?
Did you watch the Chargers/Broncos game last night and ask yourself throughout the first 3 quarters "why are these idiots going with such conservative play calls and not letting Rivers throw?".  the answer is Ken Whisenhunt and he did it all year long

Wiz took the 31st total offense and turned it into the 5th total offense in one season. Good OC, not sure how he'll do as a head coach after Arizona.

Talk about being haunted........Miami needed a RB in the worst way, they could have drafted one that could run, block, and catch the ball.

They passed on him.

He would later be drafted by a team in their own division.

Thurman, Thomas. :smh:

The perfect compliment to Dan Marino, along with a solid oline, Mark Clayton, Mark Duper, and Miami passed. ****** idiots. :smh:

montana didn't have a great coach? he wasn't surrounded by superstars?
marino had shula
peyton has talent all around him on offense

they all had help in some fashion

i'm fine if your top 3 is your top 3. but let's not act like those three carried teams all on their own. marino is the only one that played with minimal talent around him.

You're completely ignoring the amount of times Peyton Manning has crapped his pants in the playoffs. 8 one and dones? 8 AFC Championship appearances for Tommy football.

Some of you guys lean way too hard on rings which I'll never understand. It's absolutely foolish. I don't think you can call them excuses when they are legitimate facts. There's also no way you can call those Giants teams only "average". Maybe regular season play and that's a pretty big maybe.

You start holding rings against Dan Marino then you also better start propping up Aikman and Bradshaw as top 5 QB's because of the rings.

I'd put Warner top 8, I don't see what's so wrong with that. If you don't agree, state your case

I'd have Favre, Marino, Warner, Young, Peyton, Elway, Montana and Brady as my top 8. The order always changes. Right now?

1. Marino
2. Manning
3. Montana
4. Brady
5. Young
6. Elway
7. Warner
8. Favre

After that, it's a toss up for me between 8 - 20. I really can't speak as much on the way older guys.
