Man of Steel (Superman Movie Thread) - June 14, 2013 - NEW Trailer pg20

This is a good sign that WB is likely going to move forward with a sequel or JLA film. I am curious how it holds up with MU coming out next week though.

Man of Steel Sets New June Box Office Record with $125 Million

Without any doubt, the big news at the box office this weekend was the release of Zack Snyder's long-awaited Superman reboot Man of Steel.

Co-produced by The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan and starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe and Laurence Fishburne, the movie brought in $9 million in midnight screenings on Thursday and an additional $12 million from a special 7pm screening with tickets sold exclusively through Walmart. While most studios would just incorporate that $12 million into Friday, the weekend and be done with it, for whatever reason that number is being kept separate, throwing off comparisons to other June openers slightly.

On Friday, the Superman reboot added another $44 million (including the $9 million portion of pre-screenings), making it the largest Friday opening for a June release, slightly besting 2010's Toy Story 3 and 2004's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opened on a Wednesday in June 2009. It went on to gross an estimated $125 for the weekend domestically including all those pre-screenings, which was more than enough to set a June opening record, putting it well ahead of Toy Story 3's $110 million from three years back. With Father's Day on Sunday, there's a good chance that number could be even higher unless Warner Bros. overestimated slightly to compensate for what should be a strong Father's Day choice.

Internationally, Man of Steel bucked the summer trend of opening in other countries before North America, instead doing day-and-date in 24 oversea markets including the UK, Korea and Mexico where it grossed an estimated $71.6 million over the weekend on 9,710 screens. It opened #1 in all those countries including the UK where it dominated the market with $17.1 million or 75% of the country's total box office. Mexico did similar business with $9.8 million while in Korea, it took 50% of the market share with $8.8 million. Its worldwide total so far is $196.7 million.

The IMAX Corporation also saw June records broken with Man of Steel playing on 331 domestic IMAX screens where it brought in $13.3 million, as well as 79 international screens where it added another $4.2 million, for a total worldwide weekend IMAX gross of $17.5 million.

Solid film. I enjoyed the krypton scenes but I thought some of the fight scenes dragged on too much. Cavill is a solid actor. He has really improved his craft since the Tudors

A DBZ movie with these kind of live action fight scenes would be legit :smokin. Like you said the problem is a studio caring to make a serious, expensive movie about an anime. Plus who they cast will be a funny issue similar to the Dragonball movie that was made.

The dragonball movie cost 150 million to make, they obviously can spend the money.

150 mill for that trash somebody got over in that scam of a movie

The movie cost that much to make?

Damn. Whoever made it just plain sucks. For that much money they should've just had Emmy Rossum walk around topless the whole time :smokin.

So if/when there is a sequel, what will it be titled. Man of steel 2 sounds to vague... Man of Tomorow??

The Man Of Steel Rises...pause.
It should definitely be Man of Tomorrow if Superman is suppose to be the guy that kinda inspires/motivates other ppl to put on costumes or to reveal themselves to the world and become superheroes like Goyer has said in an interview as far as plans for a JL movie. Supes is suppose to be the spark.

I also think Luthor should be the villain for the sequel with a possible 2nd villain to keep up the action.

I think the second villain will be brainiac those robots just seemed creepy to me in the film

Man of Steal is a pretty damn good film. I believe it was well put, not rushed and the whole flow of the movie was just right.

As mentioned b4 these actors held it down. The action, fighting, and destruction was amazing and I think they didn't go overboard.

I'll give it a solid 10.

Hope we see Luthor again.

The real Luthor.

Not some ***** who made his billions by sleeping with a dying billionaire.

To be fair, that's how he was portrayed in the past. I agree though. We need that super genius, resourceful, saviour complex Lex that most of us in this generation are used to. I actually think with everything that happened in MOS it is set up perfectly for him. Can't wait.

im watching returns right now, and I have to say, I kinda prefer Routh. Now of course the movie had flaws, but I liked his clark kent and supes alot more
