Feel bad for Smith but this is what's best for the team, gotta go with the young talent who's balling right now

Meh, dink and dunk passes. Alex mastered checkdown yardage passes and got lucky his receivers piled up a ton of YAC. The most obvious being Moss' 47 yard TD scamper.

Either way, very impressive.

I was just throwin' it out there. I'm fully behind Kap/Harbaugh's decisions.

Was at Candlestick a few weeks ago for the tie game against the Rams, hope we come out and dominate and show them who really is the better team. We gave up 2 early TD's and WAY too many big plays last time against them, we can't have that happening this time around. Our defense looked as bad as I've seen it in the past 2 seasons :x

Losing Hunter is going to hurt, he was having a great year and really showing flashes of greatness. His YPC have got to be something crazy. Hopefully Jacobs and/or LaMichael can fill the void. Has anyone heard if LMJ or AJ Jenkins have been activated?

see this is what i don't get the hate AS gets. He won us ballgames, give credit when its due he played efficient ball this year and did what is ASKED him to do. Every QB in the league benefits in the YAC category its not just him. The STL game should be a good test for CK because it’s the first team that would see him twice in less than a month and played a good defensive game against the AZ.

no one is denying he won us games. its more so how the games have been won. With Alex, it was...see what the defense gives you and take the underneath stuff. Alex rarely took shots down field, and when he did, 80% of the time the pass was off. Teams were not scared to stack the box and dared the niners to beat them deep.
Now with Colin, teams have to be more honest and respect the deep ball. Simply put, colin just makes this team way more explosive.

i think you're confusing "hate" towards alex with all this 'i feel bad for alex' stuff. b/c i really dont see anyone bashing alex. people are saying what we already know-- alex is a limited QB.

People learn to look past the what he's done before and into the what can he do for us going fwd. The NFC championship team ultimately, IMO, proved exactly what he is. A game manager who doen't do much past his initial read and will always struggle coming back in games against half of the leagues defenses.

With those short comings - after having the CHANCE to go through it, how can you not go to the guy with more tools while still having a great d and more weapons??

quick question.. anyone with nfl's game rewind? if so, can you go back and re-watch old playoff games? I want to see all the offensive play calls on 3rd down in the NFC championship game.

nvm... just read the pbp from ESPN.... i remember the 1-13 on 3rd down killing us..what i forgot was the 1 being at the end of regulation with the giants in a prevent. of the 12 during the game, Alex had the ball in his hands on all but 1. of those 11 he threw 9. he didn't have his first recorded completion until 3:00 of the third quarter. it was his only other completion on third down... and in the 4th and overtime, all his throws were short of the sticks.

Obviously without seeing the tape, I don't know play calls, so this is what it is. Could he have done more? I don't know. but I've been calling for Kap to get a shot since this game was over. I'm glad to see this, and hope it takes us two wins further than we were last year and to that sixth Lombardi.

Very true.  Also, I would like to add on to that and say Colin is also much more mobile than Alex.  There were a few times during the Saints game that defenders were either right in Colin's face or hurling down on him and Colin was able to escape the rush and either run for a few yards or throw the ball to an open receiver.  During those particular plays all I could do was think that if that were Alex Smith instead of Colin Kaapernick he would have gotten sacked.  That's just me though.

Also Colin Kaepernick and his tattoos was discussed on ESPN First Take today, below.......

Honestly, while he's having an outstanding year, I was expecting more from Alex Smith. For years, we would hear that he needed stability from a HC and OC standpoint for him to flourish.

To me he really hasn't taken the next step, its really more of the same but at a higher, more efficient level. The third down conversation rate is about the same and the total passing yards are at the bottom of the NFL. Not that I expected him to look like Brady or Manning back there but I definitely had higher expectations for our offense this season (passing wise).

yea yea yea alex was doing pretty well....BUT we all know how sorry he is on 3rd downs and is very afraid to go long...or just has a soft hand..IMO he caused us the game last year against the Giants...3rd down conversions was :x

Yeah Alex's passing percentage is almost perfect but remember a lot of times he'd rather get sacked than just throwing it away.

3rd downs sum up the story for me. He can't consistently make plays. 1st read covered, passes to the outlet and fails to get 1st down. Same old story. Part of this is described above - defenses could cheat a certain way. Now they'll be a bit leas aggressive.

Tight end Vernon Davis, cornerback Carlos Rogers and defensive lineman Ray McDonald restructured their contracts to provide the 49ers with the necessary cap room to award Bowman with a $7.5 million signing bonus, a league source told CSNBayArea.com on Friday.

Bowman, whose original four-year deal averaged $623,062 annually through 2013, signed a five-year extension this week through 2018 that averages $8.911 million annually.

Because of his signing bonus, Bowman's 2012 cap figure immediately rose from $717,887 to $2.217 million, the source said.

In order to fit Bowman's new deal under their salary cap, the 49ers turned to three veterans to clear nearly $2.5 million in cap space.

Davis provided the biggest cap relief for the 49ers of approximately $1.2 million. Davis' 2012 cap figure went from a little over $8 million to $6.8 million. The 49ers awarded Davis a $1.48 million signing bonus and had his remaining $25,000 per game active roster bonuses for the final five regular season games designated as an OATSB item (other amount treated as signing bonus).

Rogers' salary figure went from $5.5 million to $4.7 million, as he also had his per-game roster bonuses for the final five games converted to OATSB. McDonald's cap figure went from $4.154 this season to $3.6 million, as his original 2013 base salary was partially converted to an option bonus.

The way i see it, when we played the giants they stopped the run game. We need a QB that can make explosive passes to ease the defense off the run game. Alex smith couldnt do that, once our running game got shut down, he didnt respond. He just did what he always does 5 yard passes. We need kaepernick. Well have defenses guessing. If its not a run, its a deep pass, if not its a qb run.

^ Wasnt that the Giants completely shut down the run game. We abandoned it as soon as Cruz got in the endzone. We tried to have Alex carry us back in, but we all saw what transpired. Tomorrow should be a good test for Kaep seeing as how Lambs D has already seen him on the field once. I expect our defense to Dominate.

good that NYG lost tonight and the Bears did too yesterday. Still holding on to that #2 spot with 4 remaining.
