imma disagree with this. I think a mlb is more important than an olb. but im gonna go with a healthy dwight freeney as my choice

I agree that a MLB is more important...I never said that they weren't...

I'm going with this big boy right here.

no way... you've gotta be kidding me, i'm not even 100percent sure Sapp was ever the best player on his own defense, definitely not at his position in the league, BUT you're saying ALL TIME?

Craftsy, U chose Casey hampton, U have no right to laugh at anyone's choice.

this guy hasnt been in a offensive backfield more then 10 times hisentire career. He's a space eater, a replaceable one too. U can get Grady Jackson, Gilbert Brown or any 380 lb also ran, to play that position and do thesame thing he does.

Sapp is one of the greatest DTs ever to put on some pads.

Replaceable? How many guys are playing his 3-4 nose tackle position anymore? Hardly anyone.. he takes on two blockers every single play and STILL managesto plug up the middle of the stoutest run defense the last 6 years.

Sapp had great players all around him.. when they disappeared, so did his game.

You do realize that the DT often makes the others look better....So, he was getting the most attention allowing others to get off....and he still producedand had sack numbers....

Warren Sapp had 10 sacks in 1997.....and had 10 sacks last year..... TB defense > Oaklands D....So, how did he produce last year???

Got me defending this Boonk smoking Hurricane...

u tell me

Sapp had great players all around him.. when they disappeared, so did his game.
U have got to be kidding me... Im guessing that you have not seen warren sapp play a single regular season football game after that statement.Sapp fights the same double teams casey does and puts up numbers and made a career off being in the opponents backfield.
Warren Sapp allowed Simieon Rice to have no run responsibility, in fact, just look at last yr and this yr for Rice's Swan song yrs without Sapp. Sapp madeEVERYONE good on the Bucs defense. just who was on the Bucs defense from 1996 - 2000, that "got warren his stats" please inform me.who was besides Warren the yr he got MVP and had 16.5 sacks , name them pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

warren sapp had double digit sacks for the HAPLESS raiders last yr.

So much for the "Sapp dissappeared when no one was around hiim" debate.

U know what, Now Im positive you have never watched warren Sapp play a single snap.

back to Mighty Casey

So U dont think any 350 lb Non movement, no quickness having, nopenetration getting DT cant do what Hampton does.
and u wanna talk about system player, If it wasnt for the 3-4 defense in Pittsburgh Casey Hampton would be out of the NFL .

I still cant believe u said casey hampton as the cornerstone to build your franchise right now but laugh at argualbly a top 5 DT to ever play this game

I'd call them comparable..BUT Wilfork gets a ton more credit than Hampton in my estimation... i'd be willing to bet most of you have never evenreally watched Hampton play, because I'll admit as a steelers fan even, i have a hard time picking out where he really does special things until watchingthe game on tape a second time.

hell Vince Wilfork, and Jamal Williams are better 3-4 DT then Casey Hampton.

and what great DL players did sapp play with? Because it ant like a great DB or LB helps a DT pad his stats

* note to self , If you're ever at the park and bout to play some Sandlot and Craftsy says he got next and is picking teams, sit that game out ...

First thing - Hampton would not be playing in the NFL if teams didn't play the 3-4 defense.. i will entirely grant you that. But he's been one ofthe greatest 3-4 nose tackles to ever play in that system, there's no question about that imo.

Secondly - I will admit I've never liked Sapp and always thought he was an overrated self-promoter who benefitted from playing with other good players. So maybe my hate for him runs a little strong, but I still don't consider him to be somebody i would've built a franchise around because I felt like hetried to get his too much at times and if not for having good support behind him, he would've been looked at as being a worse player. Again - that'smostly just hate talking. I really don't care that much about the Sapp argument - i'm more concerned with everybody bad mouthing Casey.

come on Craftsy, you cant even compare Hampton to what Sapp has done... a NT in the 3-4 is good for just his size and strength. Warren Sapp is a DT in the 4-3, which means you actually have to have quickness and agility. you don't just sit your fat**+# in the gap like a NT, your job is to actually get into the backfield on every play.
That's a bad argument man - you telling me a nose tackle doesn't work his%!#! off every play just as much? Just because he has differentresponsiblities doesn't mean he's not busting%!#! out there and making a difference, making it easier for the rest of the pass rush or controlling hisgap for the linebackers to make plays. I don't agree with that argument whatsoever that you're trying to make.

and how is it possible to make a DT look better? when it comes to the DT position, results speak for themselves. nobody occupies the line for you so you can rush through the gap. if you run past the OL and sack the QB, that's ALL you
Because there's more to being a DT than just getting sacks... a lot of what they do isn't recorded in stat sheets.

* note to self , If you're ever at the park and bout to play some Sandlot and Craftsy says he got next and is picking teams, sit that game out ...
You'd be sitting out anyways gunna

edit: all i'm sayin is this.. the best run defense in the league for a long time now has been the best because of one guy, and that's Casey Hampton. He's not going to get sacks, so don't go looking at his numbers to compare him to people.. that's not his job. He does his job well though, despite what any of you might think, and i still believe the 3-4 defense is a great one to use.. So if i were going to build a defense out of players right now(not picking guys from when they were in their prime like some of you), i'd go with Casey and run a 3-4 that nobody could run the ball on.

Because there's more to being a DT than just getting sacks... a lot of what they do isn't recorded in stat sheets.
Thanks for making a case for why sapp was so great
