hopefully they make some moves this offseason. Still think they should've fired Nolan though. Anyone else think that we just put up with Nolan cause of hisdad?

^No, I honestly don't think so. If the Niners did fire Nolan, do you really think they would entice a coach to SF with the situation the team is right now?It would be tough...Even if the Niners did get a new coach, it would have taken a year or two to get things going. I think Nolan is there for that last chance,he's drafted key players and he deserves credit for it. As long as the GM grows a pair of marbles and makes moves in the team on his own without Nolancontinuously telling him what to do...Then I think the Niners could make some moves for new players in the offense.

Replace Jonas Jennings.

Sign or trade for a dominant receiver.

Make sure that Vernon Davis is a key component in the offense when Alex Smith is throwing.

And, remind Martz he has an all-star running back he could use anytime.

Alex Smith firing inaccurate 20 yard square ins

martz will have a new QB in there shortly

GREAT HIRE.

Hopefully they can sign Berrian and/or trade for J Walker if they can't get someone in the draft

yea...this is Nolan's last gasp of breath. One more 4-12, 5-11 season and he's done.

And I don't like how a lot of Niner fans are just blaming everything on Alex Smith. Even though he was crap this year and his rookie season, I'mwilling to give him one more shot if he's healthy. It seems like a lot of them have selective memory and seem to forget he was pretty good last year, andthat was the reason a lot of us thought we could make the playoffs this year. I still think Rodgers would abeen a better choice

, but Smith should have onemore shot to prove himself.

I know Drew Brees wasn't a No. 1 pick and didn't have the same expectations about him when he was drafted, but didn't he suck for 2-3 years orsomething before proving to be a pretty good QB?

I listen to everything Gunna has to say about football except when he's talking about the Rams and/or anyone associated with the Rams.

No. They didn't fire Nolan because there aren't any real potential HC candidates out there.
I wanted Cam but I can't complain with Martz. I hope this means we get a REAL #1 WR this offseason.

Mike Nolan will be on at 5:30 here http://www.knbr.com/listenNow.html click 680.

Please, take him back.

Because Cam Cameron is back on the market and that would make me the happiest Charger fan if they fired Norv and hired Cam.

That's because he had another doo doo QB breathing down his neck wanting his job.

Great Sign, now hopefully we dont lose Singletary to another team. Hopefully he can keep coaching the defense.

Martz Priority
1. Frank Gore can do what Faulk did... Flank out, run the ball, just get him the ball.
2. Vernon Davis is our best pass catcher at the moment.. Make sure he gets the ball at least 7 times a game. (thrown to him)
3. Get a #1 Wideout Jackson can go to 2nd and Battle can be a good Slot WR.

I can't give up on Alex Smith just yet.. He should what he could do with a real Offensive Coordinator last year ( Turner ) now he has a very good offensivecoordinator hopefully he can get Alex back on track

Martz is dope, good hire for SF. I hope the niners get better next year. Cuz i've been waiting for a Dallas vs. SF regular season game for like 4 yearsnow. I think that was the last time they played each other in the regular season. All i can remember is Keyshawn was still in Dallas. Niners better not be doodoo again next season.

at everyone saying Martz will make a difference. You kids do you know this is same Mike Martz that was the o-coordinator for the LIONS last season? Weall know how this movie ends, the same way it's ended for the 49ers the last 5 or so seasons, and that's watching playoffs from their couches

YOU need to remember that they had JOHN KITNA at QB.....not exactly the guy i would want leading my team........Put carson palmer in with all those recieversand you have a playoff team on your hands

at this point martz is a good choice. anything is better than what that bum hostler had in his pockets.

Kitna + God > Alex Smith + Vitamin Water

Here's what Martz had to say about the 49ers.

MIKE MARTZ

--Martz said looking at the tape he sees a lot of potential with the offensive line, and that he plans to build the offense around Frank Gore.

--He said Gore is an unselfish player, like Marshall Faulk. He said Frank is bigger and more physical. He said Gore is a complete player who shouldn't comeout of the game, unless he's tired. He said Gore is the centerpiece, and they'll build around him.

--When asked why the QB isn't the centerpiece, Martz said, "I think that's always the case." He said even with the Rams when the club hadWarner and Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt, the first thing defenses had to do was take away Faulk. "A great running back has such a bigger impact on the gamethan any other position," Martz said.

--He said in watching the tape that both Alex Smith and Shaun Hill have great potential. He said both are accurate.

--Martz said he sees an offensive line that physical and athletic. He likes the rookie tackle (Staley). He said the pieces are here.

--Martz said it is not his call altogether, but he "certainly hopes" both offensive line coach George Warhop and receivers coach Jerry Sullivan arepart of his staff. He said he has the highest regard for both men. (Nolan also said earlier in the call that Warhop had not been let go as an assistant.)

--As far as the receivers, he said the "potential is there." He said it is a matter of discipline and getting people on the same page.

--He said the best way to have Alex Smith start working with his fourth offensive coordinator in four years is to "wipe the board clean," He saidhe'll start with the basic of the offense, down to getting the snap from center.

--When asked if he was reluctant to join the staff of a coach who is on the "hot seat," Martz said, he has been on the hot seat plenty himself. Hesaid he believes in Nolan. And, "Looking at the personnel, they're so close." He said the pieces are there on offense, they just have to tie ittogether. "We don't need a bunch of players," he said.

--I asked if this situation is comparable to what he inherited in Detroit. Heck, no, he said. "This is much further along. It's not even close. Thisis a much better situation."

--What happened in Detroit? Martz said it was time for him to move on.

--As far as offensive influences, he listed Ernie Zampese, Norv Turner, Joe Gibbs, Don Coryell, John Robinson and Bill Walsh. He said he talked a lot to Walshand watched practices. Martz runs the digit system.

--When asked if he is going to try to replicate what he had in St. Louis, Martz said he is going to be more pragmatic. He said the centerpiece is Gore. He saidhe'll have different players, so the situation is going to be different.

--He said he did not feel comfortable commenting on why the 49ers' offense was so bad last season.

--When asked if he wants to be a head coach again, he said, "Sure, I do." He said he did not know, however, if he would get that opportunity again.

--Smith and Hill are completely different styles of QBs. When asked what style of QB he prefers, Martz said, "Whoever completes the ball more. Accuracy isthe biggest issue." He noted a preference for seeing the ball come out quickly and accurately, and he said both Smith and Hill are capable of doing that, from what he has seen.

Yo im excited about the niners new hire. But we cannot put smith in another new offensive. He'll never get any good if he has a new offense to run everyyear. Niners need to have a little faith in there hire and try a stick with it.
