Jason Kidd Appreciation Post

The irony there?

Grant Hill and Jason Kidd were co-Rookies of the Year.

@ both of them now (except for the fact that G.Hill is now playing for his first team where flopping is actively encouraged, on offense or defense).

How many is this for Kidd? They just showed it on ESPN and I can't remember. 97? And Magic's at... like... 13_? I think that's right. I don't think Kidd will pass Magic for second all time, but if Magic does get passed, I wouldn't mind at all if it were for Kidd.

And I'm probably the ONLY guy on NT that would even consider trading Kobe for Kidd.*
nerd.gif
I know people say Kidd is old, but I honestly think Kobe will only be in the league 2... MAYBE 3 more years than Kidd. If Kidd only has 3 more left, I say Kobe has like 5... TOPS.

Just my opinion.

*I said 'consider'. I didn't say I'd do it in a heartbeat; I didn't even say I'd do it. I said I'd consider it, but I'm sure none of you would even consider it.

Well, I know zodogg would.

P.S. Mitch... listen to me, guy... I understand your love for Bynum, and I know you like your job, so you don't want to trade Kobe. Fine. Everyone else is available for idd. You listening, ol' man? Everyone. Hell, if the Nets wanted the entire rest of our roster except for Kobe and Bynum... DO IT, MITCH!!!!

Kidd is 5 years older but has only 2 more years of experience so I think Kobe might be in the L even longer. I was shocked when Laker fans were saying theywouldn't trade Odom for Kidd straight up. I don't buy that Kidd doesn't fit their offense.
Even if he has to be traded, I just hope he hoists the trophy at least once before he retires. I would LOVE for him to do it on the Nets but I'mnot sure its gonna happen with this team.

What amazes me about Kidd is every year I keep thinking he's getting older, he's bound to lose something, and it doesn't happen. The scary thingis, he won't be appreciated fully until after he's retired.

He's a joy to watch play. He deserved the league MVP the year he took the Nets to the finals.

He really needs to get out of NJ though.

Still one of the best PG to ever play the game.

Yo, that's crazy... I was planning on making a thread last week similar to this titled "Jason Kidd: Best PG Of The Past 25Years?"

But I like to make COMPLETE and THOROUGH threads before making such wild claims and I was still in the midst of my research.

Anyway, dudes are automatically gonna flame and yell "Magic". Not saying Kidd is better than Magic... but he's right there.

Magic got Kidd in career apg by 2.0. But we can attribute some of that to Magic's supporting cast as well as the Showtime fastbreak style ofplay that the Lakers ran.

Magic also got Kidd in career fg% (Magic at .520
eek.gif
and Kidd only at .400). But again, thefastbreaking style of the Lakers resulted in many EASY layups (thus boosting fg percentages). Magic also benefitted from TONS of open looks in that fluid lakeroffense with KAJ (still in his peak) down low. Magic also got a huge bulk of his points off of that baby hook which was water for him at 6'9. So it's not exactly like Earvin was a sharpshooter. As a matter of fact, as hard as it is to believe, Kidd has been a better career 3 pointshooter than Magic (33% for Kidd, 30% for Magic).

My main thing for proving whether a player is truly good or just taking advantage of a system/team's success is CONSISTENCY. The same way I said T.O. hasconsistently put up good numbers regardless of the team he's on or the QB throwing to him, is the same way I say Kidd has been excellentregardless of the teams he's been on (Mavs, Suns, Nets). And he led what is generally considered a weak Nets team to back-to-back Finals.

Kidd's 97 career triple doubles (third only to Magic's 138) are definitely more impressive for a 6-4 guard as opposed to Magic at 6.9. In other words, Kidd has done more with less throughout his entire career. Shorter than Magic and with a less impressive supporting cast.

Bottom line is this... Magic may be better (slightly) than him, but please don't dis Kidd by naming Steve Nash ahead of him.

(Don't mind the big font. I'm just experimenting for the peoplewho don't like to read every little thing that others type.

. The large font isbasically a summary of the entire post.)

Kidd = Magic > Stockton

10 = 10 > 9.5

That's how close it is. Stockton is probably the best PURE PG of the past 25 years. A debate about him and Nash is more suitable.

edit:

Stockton definitely deserves his props. Don't get it twisted. He was an EXCELLENT shooter. A hell of a passer (not as flashy as Kidd/Magic, but wedon't award points for HOW you get the ball to your teammate), and a hell of a defender (quick hands and a smart, pesky player).

There's no comparison between Nash and Stockton imo.

Stockton gets bumped to third b/c when you look at his career rpg (2.7
sick.gif
), it makes Kidd's that much more impressive (6.7 career and 8.8 THIS season

)

I have always felt that Jason was the best Point Guard in the league.......PERIOD.

Sure, Nash plays better, Parker Plays better, Paul is playing better, williams, davis, etc etc. Every year this man gets put lower and lower in the rankings dueto his age and his poor shooting %. He is shooting 36% percent this year and his turnovers are up as well but the one thing that many must keep in mind is thathe is getting triple double after triple double and is breaking records or climbing up the ranks when it comes to particular records.

You are not going to see very often a player be ranked behind players like Magic, The Big O, and Wilt.

Someone try to tell me that Chris Paul or Deron Williams will come even close to the likes of Magic, Robertson, and Kidd. When Stockton was near the end of hiscareer people put him under the radar and he still got his team, with Malone, to the playoffs and even the finals. Kidd has been pushed aside for years now andhe is just playing how he always has.

It is still amazing that people like Lebron, Kobe, Redd, and just about every player that he played with on team USA wants him on their team yet many peopleout there can treat him as if he is washed up.

It will be a shame when this man leaves the league and quite possibly you will never see another player like this for a very long time.

You see Nash does something Kidd dosent know how to. Its called winning.
Nash has a team of incredible players and can't even take his team to the finals. You'd think that a 2 time MVP with players like Marion,Amare, Bell, Barbosa and Diaw(throw in Hill now) would be able to take his team to the finals....but nope
smh.gif
. Jason Kidd will forever be better then Steve"product of a system" Nash..no question. The suns would be a dynasty right now if Kidd was the PG instead of Nash....

As for the Triple doubles...Kidd is getting more of them as he gets older. Last season, he had his career high with 12 TD's. This year he already has 10.

1. Oscar 181
2. Magic 138
3. Kidd 97

Before this season, I would have said impossible for him to catch Magic. But, at the rate he's going it actually is possible. Sure, Kidd is getting old butuntil he retires, he will never stop getting a lot of Rebs and Asts so the TDs will keep coming.

Oh and Kidd will already move into #2 in career Asts by the end of next season or the season after. In a few seasons, he will also move into #2 in career Stls

Ther is no way on God's green earth, in this lifetime, that Stockton is a better PG than Kidd.

Stockton had Malone and Malone had Stockton.

Kidd had... Kidd.

And Stockton is the dirtiest PG I've ever seen live, with Nash quickly taking his spot. Save the responses like, "Oh, like Magic wasn'tdirty," and "Oh, like Kidd isn't dirty." Listen. Stop. Comprehend. I never said they weren't. I said Stockton was the dirtiest; Ididn't didn't say he the only dirty PG I've ever seen live; I said 'dirtiest'.

And SHUGES, shooting a high FG% doesn't mean you're a sharpshooter. There's something else that factors into that, something that you completelyfailed to mention about Magic (or anyone that shoots a high FG%): choice. If I'm not a good outside shooter and I'm not a good shooter off the dribble, than my FG% would be higher if I just shoot spot-up, mid-range shots (no dribble, and nothing deep). And then when I'm occasionally open for 3, I take'em sometimes. That would produce a higher FG% than if I were an idiot about my shot selection.

So shot selection, knowing your abilities, is one thing that can increase a shooting % for a person.

Another is the system you're in. I bet that anyone in the Suns system the last few years that has went to other team/came from other teams/both... I bettheir career numbers before and after PHX are lower than when they were there.

So that's another thing that can factor into FG%.

'Shot selection' is a credit to the player; 'system' is a credit to his team. And Magic had both of those over Kidd.

And thene there's the 3rd thing; simple ability. Michael Jordan has a higher FG% than Ricky Davis (I think
laugh.gif
) simply because Michael Jordan attempts andmakes the shots Ricky attempts and misses.

Shot selection, the Showtime system, and just more ability contribute to Magic's FG% being higher than Kidd's. So let's not discredit the man bysaying it was just because he had wide open shots (thanks to Kareem) or he just had that mini-skyhook (thanks to being 6'9"). He has a higher fieldgoal percentage because he shoots better, chooses shots more selectively, and was in a better system than Kidd has ever been in, and he's just better.

Now look; you've got me looking like I hate Kidd or something.
