I always forget to do pushups until failure after i do a 5x5 of flat/decline/incline bench press each.

You do know that you have to do the push ups slowly to work out your chest, right?

Got that Perfect Push-up for Christmas, im currently on their 20 day work out plan. Before I got it i usually hit 100 in the morning n 100 at night.

I'm on a push-up/ pull-up work out over winter break. I lift like 3 or 4 times during school, but since I'm home and can't go to the gym I beendoing push ups and pull ups every other day to see how much stronger if any I get when I go back to school.

I think they are helping because it's good to add variation to your workouts and push ups are somethin alot of people tend not to do. I feel stronger afterdoing them for about 3 weeks, I used to be able to do about 50 at once. Now I'm up to 60 in a set and hopefully by the time I go back I can do 75.

I do 20 push ups in between every set of cable flies.

Hardly never. I used to, good thing I seen this thread to get me going again before I hit the gym for the 1st time.

Should I do push-ups before I go?

I do a ladder and stop when it gets too time consuming. I'm on 130 right now. I add 5 daily.

Pushups are great, I have really started to come around on them and incorporate them into my weekly routine. As some have mentioned already, the key is varyingthem up.

A great "routine" you can do with them to really add strength and endurance is this one, which NFL prospects do to prepare for the Combine:

1. Have a partner time how long it takes you to do as many pushups as you can do till failure. (Say it is 40 seconds)

2. Immediately rest for that length of time it took you. (you will rest for that 40 seconds)

3. Have a partner time how long it takes you do as as many pushups as you can do till failure. (Say it is now 30 seconds)

4. Immediately rest for that length of time it took you that time. (you will rest for that 30 seconds)

5. Repeat until you can't do even 1 pushup.

It will go quickly. Do it a few times each session. And if you practice this several times per week your bench press (if that is something that interests you)will seriously shoot up.

When the new year hit I started my pushup program again... 30 pushups every hour while at work, 8:30-5

Pushups are a conditioning exercise...doing the same amount each time won't help your total go up.

When I was in the academy...I would have to do more because 20 pushups were a joke for me. On our timed PT test I did 97 pushups in a minute......And that waspumpin!

Then the drill instructors found out....and they would grab my ankles and make me do declines while everyone else did regular.

for those looking for a good push-up routine, that 21 pyramid scheme is a good one.

you do 1 push-up and 1 sit-up. then 2 push-ups and 2 sit-ups...all the way up to 21. if you're really a beast, after you hit 21, go from 21 back down to0...
